Hi I thought I would join this forum because I am pondering buying a Triumph motorcycle of course. After 15 years on my old Harley and about take retirement, i want something a little lighter and less agricultural. My first thought was a Royal Enfield, and that is not entirely ruled out. However this week I test rode Bonneville 900 and 1200. I was suitably impressed. Then again anything would after the Harley. I have slightly conflicting requirements, I plan to tour round UK on a many B roads as possible so speed is definitely not a requirement, riding pleasure is. Conversely I do go across to the continent and something which will sit on a motorway for a few hours, two-up with full luggage, is also a nice idea. I may reserve those trips for the Harley perhaps. Anyway, I'm just sharing this in the spirit of "joining in" and saying hello. Hello Rob
Hi Rob and welcome. You can’t go wrong with a Bonnie and it’ll be an improvement on a Harley for weight and handling. Send us a picture if you do get one, and good luck with the bike search
Hi Rob. Welcome in. I’ve got a T120. I live in an area devoid of motorways so A and B riding is a must. I’ve used the bike to do a spot of camping and UK touring. At the end of the month I’m doing my first trip abroad. In my opinion these bikes are Ideal for both touring and tootling around. They aren’t sporty, although I’ve improved the handling with some easy and cheap mods. I’m a big fan of Kriega luggage rather than the Triumph stuff. Enjoy your ride whatever you choose.
Good morning Rob and welcome in. I too came from the HD ranks over to Triumph , and for the same reasons. I ride a Scrambler but our needs are not the same. Good luck with your decision. Whatever you choose be sure to always be safe and enjoy!
Rob H. Welcome to the family. Think you might be better looking at the Thunderbirds. Capable of all you want from a bike. Ride Safe & Enjoy Joe
Thank you to everyone who posted welcomes, a friendly site indeed. Also thanks to those who pointed out my "location" was set as my post code. Not intentional at all, and rectified. Finally thanks for advice on my "questions". I am planning to keep the Harley, use it from time to time for local pootles. I am narrowing in on a Bonny (sorry Joe, maybe a Thunderbird next eh), leaning towards 1200 as I was impressed with its handling and lightness, felt no different from the 900 on the road. The range of colour options on the T120 is a bit disappointing. But I will work around that. I had my Harley resprayed after a kind lady in Germany helped me to throw it down the road. So a little custom paint will make the bike "mine". Still haven't actually purchased anything yet, the hold up annoyingly is insurance: looking at multi-bike but trying to get best deal is somewhat tortuous. I feel Bikesure may be the winners, they are also recommended by MAG. PS anyone going to the Farmyard next month?
Might see you there. After all there aren't that many going eh! I was at Into The Valley t'other week. A tad fresh there!
Good bands, though being "inside" was a bit wasted, the space heaters had no hope of keeping up. Still, beer blanket helps eventually. I stayed Sunday night too, for Hoj's birthday bash. Good value, beer £1 pint!
