Wee Small Job!

Ha, I just made a post about how annoying the squeeky brakes are on my speed triple. Since day one they've been noisy and 700 miles later they haven't quieted down. I hate to have to take apart my brakes to apply grease that should have been applied from the factory

 

Yeah, I'm starting to think I may have to just take the reigns and have at it. I'm just annoyed that it's the front and the rears but, I'll just use it as an excuse to detail the bike. I'll give it another hundred miles and see if it mellows out .

 

I have some time today and may do the same, as I’m sick of the squealing.

 

You shouldn't have to put copper grease on modern brakes, but if that's the only way to sort it....I guess a little dab wouldn't harm. I would try a clean first.

I took the front brake calipers off and gave them a light sanding and applied a small amount waterproof grease to the back side of the pads. I’ll let you know how it works. I’ve read copper grease can have negative effect affects on seals, so I opted for the waterproof grease. Remember, when putting the caliper back on, finger tighten the bolts then squeeze and hold the brake lever, then tighten the bolts. This aligns the calipers to the rotors. That was a Dave Moss tip.

I've found that the biggest reason so many people are reluctant to attempt to make repairs to be fear of failure. Most things are pretty simple when you approach them the right way! It's only a machine, don't let it outsmart you!

 

I've had my RS for about a month now and had the same squeaky brakes when applying pressure low speeds. Going to take the pads out this weekend to add copper grease so great to hear that it's solved the issue for you.

 

Exactly , just give it a go.
We are all capable people, we might lack knowledge.... But in this day and age, all the info is accessable.

 

Can of worms on subject of using copper grease or owt else on back of pads,the actual manufacturers e.g. EBC recommend nothing to be applied to rear of pads,there is a link to a video (can’t mind where) that states this possibly from (the workshop) on you tube,knowledgeable guy who knows his stuff does engine rebuild stuff etc,his rant at (delboys garage) is funny as fook.

 

I’ve put copper grease on the back of my pads and it works but on thinking about it graphite might be better?
Rub the back of the pads with a pencil?
Just a thought.
Don’t try this at home folks. Wait to see what happens after I have tried it first!

I’ve often used copper slip on the back of pads, sparingly of course, and have never heard of it being a bad thing until I came on here

 

I’ve done exactly the same for years but not now or in near future,each to their own and everyone’s opinions are valid so just a personal choice.
