And did those feet in ancient time
    Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
    On England's pleasant pastures seen?

    And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
    And was Jerusalem builded here
    Among these dark Satanic Mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire!

I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,
    Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land

    Happy Saint George day

It looks like you guys celebrate your Patron Saint more than we celebrate ours in Scotland. If it wasn't for the fact my son was born on St Andrews day i woudn't have a clue when it was!

I have for many years sent St George's Day cards to a couple of mates. Every year it gets harder to get cards and my stockpile ran out this year so had to buy online at a price obviously.
I used to wear a red rose buttonhole every year too on this day but people thought I was a bit loopy i guess.
There is a St Georges run every year in Shirley, hundreds of bikes turn up every year, good to know some of us are proud of our country.
There'll always be an England and England shall be free
If England means as much to you as England means to me.

Anyone in the Hailsham, East Sussex area tonight. Long Man Morris Men are celebrating our national day at the George. 8pm dancing and then singing traditional songs in the pub afterwards.

And David Lammy, who can get away with calling 17.4 million Britons (who were exercising their democratic right) racist and Nazis on national television, whilst a man is prosecuted for calling Anna Soubry (who was acting against the democratic will) a Nazi in the street.

Everything these days is arse about face!

    Funny you should mention that.

When I was gainfully employed (many, many years ago) I was a suit wearer and ALWAYS on St. George's Day (if it was a working day) ordered a red rose button hole, wore a dark navy suit; bright red silk pocket handkerchief; white shirt and bright red silk tie.

On one memorable St. George's day I had to go to a meeting in London and, as usual, went by train. I can still recall the number of times I said "St. George's Day", with a smile, to the curious stares from passengers when I strolled (or was it strutted?) down the carriages to the buffet car. Most smiled and nodded in return; some looked pityingly on (they were probaly Welsh! :)) and others wholly disdainful.

As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing wrong with national pride as long as it isn't used and abused. I love my country and proudly consider myself British first, but I was born in England so I consider myself English first-and-last.

Hope you ALL have a very enjoyable day - especially if you're out on the bike - wherever you are and wherever you're from.

I remember many years ago when i was a retail manager getting a call that my very Scottish area manager was on his way for a visit on St George's day. A flower stall right outside the shop was an opportunity too good to miss... needless to say by 9.15 myself and all my staff were proudly kitted out in red roses, it got the desired reaction :) and was well worth my investment.
