Had my 08 Thruxton for a couple of weeks now and added about 600 miles. Still getting used to the ways of the ride. Have set the suspension to its softest as I'm not the heaviest of people, adjusted all the control alignments and taken as much slack out of the throttle cable as possible to reduce the on/off effect at lower speeds.

I do find that there is a tendency for the engine to hunt at 3000rpm especially when trickling through built up areas so now either take it up a gear and drop the revs nearer to 2000rpm or tap it down and run it towards 4000rpm to avoid this.

I realise that it's not a sports bike but if it's set up well before a corner and driven through then it works just fine like my earlier Guzzi used to.

Riding position suits me just fine and the slightly forward stance helps offset the wind blast of a naked bike.

Definitely a change from my SV650 but a good one and I really Look forward to each run out despite the crisp weather we are still experiencing at the moment. All the warmer days seem to be when I'm at work!

I must admit I'm a big fan of the Thruxton - I reckon the look is just about perfect.

My dad used to have a Triumph and he was quite taken with the design. He was very impressed that they had captured the spirit of the original bikes but with the ease of use of modern machines.

Today was good as the wind had dropped and it was quite a lot warmer so riding the bike was less of an endurance test and much more pleasurable. Had a run round some local roads and then back home to spend a bit of time cleaning the bike in the sunshine! So much easier than trying to work under fluorescent light within the confines of the garage.

Not babying the motor so much now and the bike is much more responsive, more balanced and the Arrows sound great!

Really pleased that I was able to get a Thruxton. Been lusting after one for ages and the experience is exceeding all my expectations - other than the fuel consumption! Still can't believe that this bike struggles to achieve 40mpg but if this is the only negative then I can live with that.

hey Creaky, I've had mine for almost a year now, love it to bits and still get a thrill out of riding her, with regard to your uneven throttle have a look at lamda sensor removal or o2 sensor by pass as its also known see if that's what your prob is. and fuel consumption? who cares, its the ride, no matter what the cost, that counts.

    Hi Crispey
Not too worried about the uneven throttle so much now. I've checked with the paperwork that came with the bike and contacted the dealer that carried out some work. It seems that the bike was remapped when the Arrow exhaust was fitted and the printed readout of the various tests and checks of the EFI system are all showing as OK about 800 miles before I bought it. I think the problems are down to operator error and I just need to recalibrate to a fuel injected bike again after experiencing the smoothness of carbs on my SV650!

Spent some time detailing the bike yesterday as the weather was so poor. Have discovered that the alloy cases don't appear to have lacquer on so was able to indulge in a bit of Solvol Autosol on these and the exhaust headers. Also gave the chain a thorough clean and re-oiling as well as a bit of tight corner work on the spokes. Getting to know the detail of the bike now and developing a bit of a system to keep things clean and in order. The Abba stand and front scissor lift are working well and helping me to reach everything comfortably. Lucky that I have plenty of room in the garage and have it well set up with plenty of cloths, radio, heating and a shelf full of suitable products!
