Hello Everyone, Newbie here I've bought a 2007 bonnie 865 (carb) and i'm really struggling to get insurance for it, not because i'm young or have points, but because none of the insurance companies believe that my bike exists. When getting insurance quotes the default options are: Bonneville (non SE) upto & including 2007 - 790cc Bonneville (non SE) 2008 onwards - 865cc Bonneville (T100) 2001 - 2017 - 865cc My bike is neither a T100, 790cc nor a 2008 onwards model (presumably with fuel injection) no insurance company will believe that a 2007 exists with the 865 engine that isn't a T100 and even a 'specialist' insurer (carole nash) won't help me to select the correct model. DVLA has the correct details ... Where does everyone else get their insurance from ... am i the only person who has a 2007 865cc ???
Hello, Thanks for the quick reply. I ruled it out being a T100 because (based on my google images searching) the T100 has 'T100' on the side panels plus a 2-tone paint intead of solid colour ... maybe i am wrong?! It does have spoked wheels, but brushed engine cases I bought it off an old guy ... 2300 miles from new (12 years ago) i very much doubt he has done any mods to it! Yep 19" front wheel Just checked through the manual to see if there are any clues in there as to the difference between a standard and a t100 and found the rev counter page: Bit mine certainly does not have a rev counter
True, but most of them say it's an America, except for Hastings who said it must be a 2008 with a 2007 registration :s
Go on triumph check for updates and recalls on their register - this will show exact model details. Hope this helps

Seems unlikely, even according to that page they were 790cc upto and including 2006 and 865cc for 2007. It's certainly not an early 2008 model because it has carbs, evident by the choke. Everything seems to point to mine being a bog standard 2007 spec Bonneville 865 but whoever makes the database of vehicles used by insurers never added it in. There's no point having a bike that nobody will insure
Yeah, sorry, my mistake It does look like the standard Bonneville though. Not T100. You can easily tell if it's carbs...wiring for carb heaters under the float bowls.
It is plainly what the V5 says it is......a 2007 Bonneville 865 without the tacho and two tone T100 paint job. The T100 became 865 in 2005 and the Bonneville and SE caught up in 2007. The insurers database is wrong but if they say it’s 790 don’t argue....send a copy V5 with your payment and you are bulletproof.
I'll try and call some other companies tomorrow, it seems they are all working off the 'but the computer says it can't be' principle. I can see this becoming a faff every year at renewal date
At the risk of repeating myself? Go to a TRIUMPH DEALERSHIP? They should be able to clear up the mystery!!
It’s a T100 as they all have large laced wheels with those front mudguards and are taller than the ‘Bonneville’ . People still refere to them incorrectly as Bonneville or Bonneville T100 just like people call vacs ‘hoover’!! The modern day ‘Bonneville’ is different and has cast 17” wheels, are lower and not been out as long as the T100
I called the local Triumph dealership and they say its not a T100, the lack of rev counter is the biggest giveaway, as others have said the engine casing and paint scheme can vary from the normal chrome / 2 tone, but if it doesnt have a rev counter it's definately not a T100
Well, it’s not totally correct even coming from them. If you bought a Bonneville SE which has a rev counter as standard from new does that make it a T100 even as it’s got cast wheels? Looks like the dealers too are not sure.
Well maybe nobody knows I managed to convince Carole Nash that it's a 2007 with an 865 instead of a 790 so got my insurance from them. Now to get her used, hoping I can double the mileage this year. Really need some new tyres ... 13 year old tyres surely aren't safe
You will have a little oval on the sidewall with 4 numbers like 3409. It is the manufacturing date week 34 of 2009 i.e. mid August. Conventional wisdom says Avon AM26 Roadriders or Michelin Pilot Activs are your best choice. I have the Michelin’s and swear by them. Each has their devotees!
Ok good it’s insured now. I’ve been looking through my Haynes manual for more accurate descriptions but still confusing. All the range started in late 2000/1 year called ‘Bonneville’. In 2002 they launched the T100with additional stuff etc like yes the Rev counter, tank knee pads polished engine covers. Nov 2004 T100 was given a slightly detuned version of the new 865 engine which went fuel inj in 2008 and so on. The Bonneville SE came in on 2009 which was a high spec trim but no mention of the plain cast wheel Bonneville (which I have) at all which is a very popular bike?!!
