Hope some1 can help, bought speed triple 1050 as a non runner, still having issues getting it started, so far I have a replaced stator and rectifier as stator burn out, new map sensor as it wasn't reading, I have checked ecu with tuneecu for faults, none present. reinstalled original map, still no joy. Bike is turning over fine, have sufficient fuel pressure, also injectors are firing, new plugs. New battery. Bike will start for maybe 5 -10 seconds then cut out, just keeps doing this. I do have spark but have noticed it's not consistent, on a few occasions will only spark when cranking if I throttle it???? My question is are these bikes prone to ecu failure, after checking all wiring and everything else I'm assuming it's either ecu or Crank sensor, any info be much appreciated

Hi, I'm in a similar situation having bought a non runner so will watch this post closely.
I'm used to old 70's Japanese bikes and this is my first bike that has electrickery to contend with so very much a mystery.

I'm an auto electrician so quite competent with the diagram and checking the electrics, I have new Crank sensor on order so will keep you posted on my progress,

    Hi Guys:
I bought a non-runner last year, a 1996 Sprint. I heard it running but when delivered it was a non-starter for about a month due to a no spark situation. After checking all the interlocking switches, coils, wires etc. it ended up being the crank position sensor. It was a bit of electrical deception....when troubleshooting it was sometimes testing positive, likely due to an internal fault since its a sealed unit. After replacing, the bike is extremely reliable but I won't travel without a spare!

Quick update,,, tried new speed sensor tonight, still the same. Managed to get a compression tester checked cylinders, all reading very low between 50 -70 psi, put a little oil down cylinder managed to get up to 100_125 psi so looking like piston/ring fault unfortunately, surprised have issues on all 3 cylinders???? Will update when engines out and stripped

Before you strip it out, if it has been standing for a long time the bores may of dried out, I note you compression went up when you added oil to the bores I think you would of still had poor compression if a ring had gone, just a thought.

Well I pulled engine out, ready to be stripped, timed up engine and found inlet cam 3 teeth out, reset timing, checked valve clearances, all within spec, cranked engine over on bench 200psi, result. So looks like just timing was out. Ready to go into new frame now, when I find 1. Cheers for everyone's replys and interest
