After hearing so many positive reviews about three in line engine and seeing some really stunning bikes on roads I started to think about getting a Speed triple 2011-2014 bike. At the moment I ride CBR 600 F-Sport and fall in love with the bike for the last 5 years, but it feels like time to say good bye to my beloved Honda and get something more torque with upright position (these extra pressure on wrists doesn’t do any good these days). So my choice felt to Speed Triple as a replacement, but before spending money on a new girlfriend I would like to know her a little bit better and would appreciate if some of You guys would advise what shall I look for buying a bike and what are the common problems with Triples. Appreciate your support and looking forward to become part part of the family
Welcome to the forum mate. I was in your boots 3-4 years ago, had an f sport and moved to a speed triple 2015. Torque is insane compared to cbr from very low down, don't have to rev the nuts off it to get up to stupid speeds. The 15 model I had was a bit snatchy but trick is not to completely close the throttle. Its alot more bike and heavy top end so keep tyres in good nick is a must, pressure makes a huge difference. A lot more viby and not silky smooth like any hondas I've ridden...you may find the gearbox a bit agricultural. Not too sure on common problems, they are pretty good now. Full service and mot and have a look at any mods the previous owner has done, make sure its all above board. Best bet is to find a couple you would consider and ride them for longer than just 10 mins. I dont regret it as I now have a 16 speed which is much smoother..but have a trusty blade.
Artemij. Take one for a test. Just listen to that triple roar and feel the power of those three cylinders working believe me you won't need advice. Just the money to take it home with you. Ride Safe Joe.
Hi Chaps, and thanks for your warm welcome. I think my mind is set now and I will be looking and testing some of the bikes in near future. As you folks already own triumphs would you direct me what common faults I should look for testing a bike: unusual engine noise, stiff gearing, mileage, throttle issue etc etc. The reliability of the bike is a key factor to me and all your comments and experiences well appreciated.

The later bikes are pretty well sorted by now, main item to look for is service history and bike should be spotless at this age, there are plenty 14 plate bikes out there for around 6 thousand pounds with mileage under 10 thousand.
Artemij When you test your bike. Run your fingers around the brake disc's if they are badly worn then the bike has been abused. You do get a small ridge around the edge but check for bad ridges. Start your bike from cold only way to see about any problems. Check the battery that it is good. Mechanically the bike is faultless. But if it needs work you will know and you will hear it listen in around the head for a lot of rattle mostly with high milers. And feel how it rides it should pull and corner well no veering to the sides or over snatchy. again high mile bikes. Look for service history tells a lot about your bike and main dealer always best. Check tyres and bits you want a nice round tyre not something that has a flat spot in the centre. All in all you are choosing a great machine well tested and proved. Regards Joe.
Hi And Welcome to the forum, plenty of good advise already, just to throw a spanner in the works try a Street Triple R back to back with the Speed, some find they prefer the agility and light gearbox ... just saying
Thanks for all your support guys, very helpful. As I understand the 2011 model got the contemporary look with new headlights. In 2016 the bike was modified in many ways and received run by wire upgrade. I checked the prices for 2016 models and it looks out of my range at the moment, so I would stick with 2011 model for now and see how it goes. Any of you folks know any minor/significant changes been made to a bike during 2011-2014 years??? Or would it be CPU software update only?? Thanks
2011-2014 was just color choice changes for those model years, ECU updates are easy to apply with a TuneECU or when you get the bike serviced.
