Hello. I have a 1976 T140v. I've seen the oil filter conversion kits with the external filter cartridge. Are they very difficult to install and are they in fact any use ? Thanks for your helps mates; T
Hi welcome to the nut house you should fit right in.Someone will be along shortly that can help you. Tucker
Hi, Tony. External oil filter is an excellent upgrade - more oil in the system and it's cleaner too! Don't know how easy they are to weld, Araldite, superglue, nail, screw or tie on 'cos I've never done it, but I would guess that there are some external oil lines to tap into near where the filter is to be located. Oil filtration on these bikes is (I believe) by way of a flywheel sludge trap -very basic, which when it gets full is of little use. Modern oils usually contain detergents which will clean it out eventually, but may also cause the engine to die a sudden, painful death due to bits of muck blocking up vital oilways - think blood clots causing a heart attack/stroke (I had one of them once - not fun!) and you'll be not far off. If in doubt, have a word with people who supply the kit, and better still, with anyone who has fitted one or had one fitted.
You can buy an oil cooler kit for later twins or just buy a new gauze filter and change the oil reg. oil filt kit https://www.ebay.com/itm/TRIUMPH-65...IN-FRAME-FILTER-KIT-PN-TBS-0004-/401304766864
Hi Tony I'm planning to do a similar thing to my T140e. I have been looking at Paul Goffs modification which seems to be highly thought of... Did you fit yours in the end. Mick
