What are you using to charge it? I fryed a 12v bike battery with a car charger, they feed the amps in too quick.

We are using a Numax compact battery charger, 12 volt 4 amp.

4 amps is quite high for a bike battery that is probably 10Ah. They’re best charged at 2 amps.......

    Bench Test Result
We fully charged the battery on Saturday the 8th up to 12.87v
On the 9th it was 12.80v
On the 10th it was 12.78v
On the 11th it was 12.76v
On the 12th it was 12.75v
On the 13th it was 12.74v
On the 14th it was 12.74v

I Then put the Battery on its side, to mimmic being on the bike, then hooked up a 21w Bulb and left it for 4 Hours and it dropped down to 11.60v

24 hours later on the 15th it was 11.65v
And on the 16th again it was 11.65v

A Healthy battery & 2 milliamp draw on the bike shouldnt reduce the voltage such like i explained in my first post . . .

Just doesnt add up ?? any ideas ??

    Amps = watts/volts
So a 21w bulb at 12v is drawing just under 2 amps. I am not sure where your milliamperes come in.

You need to get the battery load tested to definitively check its condition. At a pinch, charge it then crank the bike plug leads off for 10-15 secs. It should show at least 9v across the terminals on your multimeter while actively cranking.

You seem to be torn between
    Charging circuit
    Parasitic draw
    & battery condition?

When you purchased the new battery did you charge it before fitting. As if you fit a badly charged battery the rectifier marks that as fully charged point. I always tickle charge any battery 24 hours before fitting.

The 2 milliamps, comes from the draw that the battery has on it when hooked up on the bike and the bike is off.
Load test sounds like a good idea.

No we didnt, we rode to the battery shop and bought it and swapped it over there and then. Gives it a false reading as such then

I have found that a battery has sat around in shops and factories they do lose a little charge if ever fully charged atall. The bike does recognize the charge and notes that to be the limit. But some of the electrically minded boys will be along soon and get you on the right line.

great post for me. My 05 sprint has a charging problem when I ride but the troubleshooting videos will help pin it down.
