Well I agree with Chris and the worst bike show, it was that bad it should never be forgotten, I got slated on the owners club forum when I mentioned that the bonneville 60 event was shit, it's a bit like that saying when in the presence of a German " don't mention the war "

Yeah I will join MAG, I was thinking of going to the trifest 2018 event in skeggy at the end of October but bit concerned it will be just as bad so asked fellow members there opinion on the matter and no one can be bothered to reply as yet

I have to agree with pretty much all of the above.

Clearly the 'Bonneville 60' celebration event was, by common consensus on here at least, something of a disaster - but, IMHO, that shouldn't be seen as a mark of the wider TOMCC organisation. Hopefully, if they get enough feedback, they'll learn from the experience and get their act together for any future event so I'd agree with BS1948's intimation that objective feedback from individuals can only be a good thing. If they (club and/or event organiser) choose to ignore it and fail to learn the lessons perhaps THEN you should consider voting with your feet and ignoring the club's renewal invitiation - after all, most people wouldn't stop going to the cinema because they saw one bad movie. Would they? Maybe, they would .... but I haven't and wouldn't.

I'm a member of TOMCC - though not a longstanding one, having joined this year - but I'm not affiliated to any branch and am not on the forum so I find it a bit disturbing that a fellow club member can be "slated" for airing a presumably valid and reasoned criticism of a club event that seems to be fairly widely recognised as sub-par ... and not just because of the weather or 'circumstances beyond our control'. But, I reckon that any online forum is only ever one message away from a verbal bear pit at the best of times - throw in some potentially bruised egos, overworked organisers or personal sacred cows and the recipe is already stirred just waiting for the flame ignition! And that's NOT meant to sound in any way like a condonement or even a rationalisation - to use the modern vernacular, "it is what it is"!

I also noticed this from an earlier post in this thread :-

"Was a member of TOMCC for a couple of years back in the late 90's, remember the club magazine being antiquated even back then, they were happy to take membership money from Hinckley Triumph owners (which I was/am) but was 99% Meriden focused. Soon decided (for me) they were a waste of space."

I have a recent copy of "NACELLE" (the TOMCC magazine) in front ot me and, I have to say, for a club magazine it is really quite good. Presentationally it is VERY good - full magazine sized format; full colour throughout on heavy, quality, glossy paper; 40+ pages with what appears to me to be a reasonable balance between Meriden and Hinckley content. Granted, a dozen or so pages are directly concerned with the club's branch reports and so are of limited interest to the wider, non-branch member readership like me but it's a club magazine - what would one expect? There are plenty of commercial adverts - surely the funding lifeblood of any magazine - so it's a good source of potential suppliers (TTP have an ad. in there) of insurance, parts, clothing and more, and the classifieds are free for members and allow space for decent photographs. Definitely not what I'd call 'antiquated'.

I've just done a pre-posting proof read of this and am concerned that it sounds a bit like a rant or an apologist's plea for "mercy for the Bonneville 60" or summat. Apologies if it reads like either - it's not meant to. I just think a rational and reasoned view of the Club, if not the event, is needed. It's a question of balance.

    No, wait, it's not a question ....... ;)

    Regards,

    Adie

I'm ex MAG member, it has been taken over by the pedal cyclists, they weren't happy with just riping off smidsy so now they seem to run the whole MAG show. Hence I'm an ex member.

Don't think I'll bother with MAG then, I think it's going to have to be the knitting owners club after all !!

I quit MAG a few years ago. Our local branch had died for lack of members and the national executive were up their own arses with in fighting. That said, MAG rallies really were superb. Excellent music, comedy and enough fast food to clog the arteries of a whole regiment of bikers. My rallying days are over sadly so I don't think I'll be rejoining but they do do good work - getting a PTW exemption on the pollution charge in Birmingham for example and getting free bike passage over the Dartford crossing, as well as persuading a number of authorities to permit motorcycles in bus lanes.
