Hi all, and thanks for adding me.

so I've bought a 2010 America with 5300 miles on, which for the most part I love. However I'm having an issue I hope someone can help with.

when cold the bike starts and rides a dream, but after about 10miles when nice and hot I have an intermittent issue, I can be sat at lights or a junction ticking over fine I go to pull away and the bike splutters and dies. Starts back up instantly but at the next stop sign same will happen again, getting worse as the bike goes further into journey. Also if I hold it at 30mph in third I can feel the bike trying to surge it wont sit nice and smoothly. I have had it on a diagnostic tool nothing came up, it has after market exhausts so I've had the mapping checked that's all where it should be too. running out of ideas now. I've run seafoam and redex through to clear any tank or injector issues, but nothing helps? any assistance would be appreciated.

It seems to be a common issue, my brother has the sand on his 2016, it helped a bit to up the idle a bit and block off the air injection, see here

Welocome. Best wishes getting your bike sorted. There can be various reasons for the issue you're experiencing. Hopefully those better acquainted with spanners can give you some tips.

Yes there could be many reasons. check you haven't got a plug or plug cap breaking down with the heat, and no damaged wires check the battery connections and the sensors. Really it is just a simple list of elimination. And you might be better to get the carbs sonically cleaned. Strange for the America as it is a great machine. Bear with it and you will sort it.O'h and welcome to the Family.

    Hi Paul,
Your bike is fuel injected, these machines run very lean ! Uping the idle and removing the air injection should help, but the best cure is to get someone to tune it on a dynamometer , this will cure all ! The coils could be on the fritz, air leak in the AIS or fueling to weak at low/idle. Check through all the possibilities and you will find a cure.

try checking the leads that run to the coils. I had a similar issue on my speedmaster and it turned out one of the leads was half hanging off. Does the engine management light come on?

You might want to check out your throttle position sensor.

I misunderstood your suggestion as a question about TPS being a mistake on my part. I didn't even know about common Triumph problems associated with a CPS.

    Sorry.

That’s a great, detailed article you linked us to and him saying it was rare for a TPS to fail on a 12000 mile bike and it makes you wonder about the quality on Triumph ones as you will find these symptoms happen on a lot of sub 5000 mile triumphs some barely 2 years old,
