I am planning to soon buy a new Bonnie, can anybody tell me what is involved in the services and if someone who is half competent mechanically could carry out the service a home.

    cheers

I tend to do pretty much all my servicing and I run a new thirteen plate bike. The only thing is that it nulls the warrenty, but As I'm in the motor trade I find warrenties are not worth much from past experience. Some stuff I need to send to a dealer but I'm very thorough and I like all my fixings and fasteners properly greased, chains lubed, calipers serviced and a thing else inspected. The Bonneville in my eyes is a bike that is a pleasure to tinker with anyway.

Yeah, do all my servicing and tinkering on the Bonnie - it lends itself to a bit of DIY.
Mines an 04 though so no warranty to worry about, plus I get carbs to play with.

A Haynes manual is a great investment! It shows everything that's involved.
And even if you don't do it all yourself it'll give you a rough idea what you pay the garage for.
