Well, there’s me getting an arf decent bike so I popped along to a local bike clothing place to buy an arf decent lock, (bought it before I got the bike) Oxford Patriot....Thatcham approved yer!! Don't fit the ###@@! disc!!! Gutted! Too late to get one now so I’m in the lap of the gods that no scrote will walk by and see my cover!! Got me car in front of it. Can’t even get it in my rear disc (America) Can anyone out there give me some idea of an arf decent lock? I’ve trawled through the posts on locks and security but it seems that there’s no disc lock or padlock that’s any good to keep the scrotes from beating the locks!! All help much appreciated!
Now ya got me?? Where would one put it if its not designed for the disc? It’s the 14mm pin not the 75mm pin, but on the America the holes on the disc are tooooooooooo small
Littleade, I wearn’t trying to put it through the small holes I was trying to put it through the wriggerly parts nearer the centre of the disc.....I’m not that silly......am I? lol
https://mandrado.wordpress.com/2013/02/24/don-t-buy-xena-disc-lock-with-alarm/ So much for Xena disc locks!
Xena doesn't fit America, I can confirm this. Was disappointed when I tried to use mine, always swore by the Xena disk alarm, great bit of kit. Get a chain and padlock combo, put it through the wheel spokes and then either something solid or another part of the bike.
Can't recall if mines was same front disk, but guess so. As you can there is feck all space to fit anything on the front disc. Even if you found one small enough pin, you could snap it like a pencil!
My brother did the same, bought a disc lock for his America and found it didn’t fit. Best thing, well better for outside the house, is a ground anchor, a good chain and a cover. The disc lock won’t stop them lifting it.
Yer thats the one I got the 14mm, I need to find how big that disc gap is to see if a 11mm disc lock will fit or I get the Oxford screamer as an added security (which is 11mm) with another either Abus or Thatcham approved lock n chain...I’m getting abit paranoid knowing its outside with only 2 locks on it and neither is Thatcham approved. I will go out tomorrow and spend some serious dosh to keep her safe from scrotes!! Thanks for the help lads
Yer thats right, I didn't think to ask before hand I’ll nip along the shop where I got the Patriot to see if he’ll do a swop but I threw the packaging away last week so we’ll see? Ground anchor ordered with another chain, and possilbly an Oxford Screamer just for the audible deterrent! I bought the Oxford XL cover just aswell cos it ain’t stopped chucking it down since last night!!
I would advocate Pragmasis. Get a decent chain and lock from them. Not cheap but if you pay peanuts for bike security, expect monkey-metal. https://securityforbikes.com/products.php?cat=High+Security+Chain+and+Lock+deals Edit: I recommend Pragmasis because I have one of their 19mm chains which is one link shorter than it used to be. The scrotes' angle grinder ran out of battery just over half way through the link. My bike almost looked smug when I returned to her.
Like MrO suggests, get a high quality thick chain 16mm or 18mm, and a top quality lock and attach the bike through the frame or back wheel to something heavy/immovable.
A Thatcham logo on my Oxford lock reduced my insurance a bit when I purchased the ‘Patriot’ Is there a difference from ‘Thatcham’ and ‘Sold Secure’? From that link above I couldn’t find ‘Thatcham’ on their website only ‘Sold Secure’ is a ‘Sold Secure’ locks the way to go and ignore ‘Thatcham’? Expensive locks but the only way to go to outwit the scrotes
I have a feeling Thatcham no longer test security devices. Could be wrong (occasionally I am) so don't quote me, but think I heard that mentioned at work. Too lazy though to ask Auntie Google.
Aye up mate, if the scrotes want your bike they won’t stop trying. The best method I’ve found is A”!another chain & a quality lock teemed up with a ground anchor & disc locks. All you can do is slow them down to give you chance to hit them with something heavy & painful (l’m sorry officers in a fit of remorse he repeatedly hit his head on this bat)
Sorry to side track this post (I started it) but I cant find where to put a new post up?? I’m using an ipad if thats anything to do with it?? Annoying big time!! What I want to know is, can I fit a 955i rev counter in to my America 2012 model, and is it plug n play? Thanks guys
