After 35 years, I had a relapse. Bought another motorcycle, 2006 Black Bonneville. Could folks smarter than me answer a couple of questions, please? 1) Where in the heck can registration paper be stored? No room in hard to access under seat; 2) No helmet lock - something somewhere to purchase? 3) Manual says 87 octane ok, but others say premium. Thoughts? Thanks, mates.

    Hi and welcome.

    1. I wouldn't store papers on a bike, if someone nicks it, they have documentation. Keep it somewhere safe in your house. And on the bike, bit will get wet and ruined.

    2. Buy a wire bike lock, put it through the visor slot and fasten onto swingarm or similar solid point. Only been riding 9 years, never had a bike with a helmet lock. Plus leaving helmet on the bike, people cut the strap, you can't ride away, they nick your bike !!!

    3. Put petrol in it. Lots of standard unleaded. If you want to waste money on premium fuels, do so, it's your money. But not make much difference to how your bike will run.

Long time off bikes, take it easy, ride safe. You thought about a refresher session with an instructor? Or a bike safe course with local plod.

Welcome aboard WBC, I'm guessing you're not residing in the UK as it's not a legal requirement to keep your registration docs on the bike, could you keep them in a jacket pocket? Have you checked on the underside of the seat for helmet hooks, that's where mine are on my Speed triple, some of the other members will be along shortly and no doubt offer ideas/answers....fair warning though, they will want pics of your bike.

Welcome in to the madhouse. I’ve got two helmet locks bought from eBay and attached to both sides of my rack in the back. They must have been less than £3 each

Thanks for the response! Here in the States, when pulled over, the cops always ask for both license and registration. Yep, wire lock and regular unleaded it is, thanks. No need for refresher course - everything came back, like falling off a log. Given the heat wave in the UK I'm sure you blokes are trying to ride to cool off! ;-)

Welcome to the forum! There are several helmet lock options like this one that you can choose from. Just make sure the dimensions will fit an open space on your bike. Also, make sure they can't easily be unscrewed, or broken. I fold and laminate a copy of my registration card and keep it in my wallet. In many states, you can get away with a copy on your phone - where you should probably also keep a PDF copy of your owner's manual for reference. If the manual says 87 octane, it should be fine. The bike will tell you if it wants more. ;) Enjoy your new ride!

Hi there, and a warm welcome from the UK's little neighbour, the Netherlands ;)

In the Netherlands it's also obligated to have your documents with you. Fortunately, it is a small pass/card that fits in my wallet.

You mates are great! Thanks for the sage advice! Like this from MrOrange. Isn't the national motto of Scotland "Let's get the bstrds!"?:
"You know, Scotland has its own martial arts. Yeah, it's called Fuk-U. It's mostly just head butting and then kicking people when they're on the ground"
