Well, yet another new (but old) member for this forum. I'm in New Zealand, live up in the wops - surrounded by bush in the northern foothills of the Waitakere ranges (to the west of Auckland), about 10 minutes from the awesome Bethells Beach. I picked up my new Speed Twin (Cranberry Red) on Friday, have about 220 km on the clock now. Been a bike rider since back in the day in the UK, had many bikes but never got to ride a Triumph then. Had a spell not riding, but have got back in to it again for commuting and fun. The bike I traded in to get the Speed Twin (tell me, do I have to have a name for her?) was a BMW G310R - bought brand spanking about 11 months ago when they were launched in NZ. Nice bikes, really good handling and go pretty well - but just didn't really tick the box for me in the end as I realised I wanted the low speed torque and rumble of a big twin. I had narrowed my options really to the Speed Twin and the Moto Guzzi V7 - the dealership I went to has both so I could easily do back to back test rides. The Guzzi was impressive to say the least, but I felt probably not so well suited for commuting, and had higher fuel consumption, so confirmed the Triumph for me. So, what else can I tell you about? Perhaps that I'm quite a technical, engineering type person (say no more) Time to take the dog to the beach. Cheers - Derek
Hi Dereck, and welcome in to a great forum. We like both technical and Triumphs ! Some of the members have the Moto Guzzi V7 I saw recently, really looks a nice bike, but yes mostly Trumpets. Treat us to a picture of your new steed. Safe riding mate. The others will be along soon, I'm off to take the Bonnie out see ya!
Welcome to the forum and enjoy that new bike! I hope your dog had a good day at the beach. One of mine is absolutely fascinated by the water/waves at the ocean and it's a pleasure to see her have so much fun.
Welcome to the Asylum you should fit right in . To keep the inmates happy we will need photos. Tucker
Good morning and welcome in. You had me as a Triumph rider and a dog owner! Remember to always be safe!
Thanks for the welcomes. I've had my Bonnie 5 days, got 340 km on the clock now - I'm really appreciating getting back to a bike with truck loads of torque. Did a 120 km ride on Sunday - I'm lucky that I live in a rural area to start with, roads are mainly twisty and hilly, and I can easily ride that kind of distance without a single traffic light. Downside is that some of our local roads are pretty crap surface wise - end of winter and man eating potholes are plenty, bumps and subsidence too. It's beginning to get a tad warmer with Spring around the corner, but will still be likely wet and windy for a while. Anyway, the obligatory photo of my bike is attached, looks like any other new Cranberry Red Bonnie I guess (parked outside one of the workshops at school, my HOD was exceedingly jealous). Also a gratuitous photo of my dog (Golden Retriever) being attacked by my grandson at our section. Cheers - Derek
