Hi, not been on here for a while after moving away from triumph, but after my last bike was stolen GSXS 1000. I wanted back to triumph. I have had a few over the last few years had a street triple, Tiger 800, Tiger Sport and a 2012 Speed triple. Anyway back to a new triple. Was looking at the latest bikes but was offered over 2k off a new old stick bike with a 1k voucher. This was in June during the triumph sale so got a load of OEM parts.

Attached are a couple of pic's. Just need to get out an use it. I used to commute everyday but these days work from home, so a bike is a weekend or nice day toy.

Those are still great bikes and sounds like you got it for a fabulous price. You said it yourself, get out and use it. Welcome back.

Great bike and great price. I have some regret selling my 2017 speed triple r and getting the RS. The R was all I really needed.

Awesome stuff. You know you can still "commute" on it even if you work from home! You can even pick the time you commute on it so as to miss all the traffic! :D

    Hi Matt,

Apologies for highjacking the thread but your comment interested me.

I have a 2017 Speed R and have been considering the upgrade to the new RS.

I must admit, the R is all the bike I really need but the RS TFT Screen, up and down quick-shifter, lean sensitive TC and more powerful engine with faster spin-up appeals.

    What regrets do you have?

    Gled.

    Gled,

Don’t get me wrong the RS is a great bike, but they have some problems. The black paint is tricky to look after, my tft screen had to be replaced as if was faulty, TC’s rear brake switch has been replaced twice as it was faulty and stuck on disabling cruise control.

My R was bulit proof, it had more character than the RS and in my mind a more solid bike. The rear subframe was just awesome, why they dropped the red on the RS I don’t know.

All the improvements on the RS are good but do I need them? No. Lean sensitive TC, well I haven’t used it yet in 3000 miles. The TFT screen is great now it works. My R was Hilltop mapped and to be honest was just as quick as my RS. The Keyless ignition is good if you have a half decent memory! The lighter wheels are noticeable and the bike feels smaller because of this. The auto blipper is good fun but not a game changer over the QS on my R.

Reviewing the above was the RS worth the additional money over my well sorted R? If I turned the clock back, knowing what I do know, would I do the same? The answer would be no.

Do I regret my decision? Maybe just a little.

Ride one for a day and see what you think? It is a great bike, but is it worth circa £4000 over the R? I don’t think so.

    Regards

    Matt

Matt, do you think you may change your mind if your RS was remapped by Hilltop ?
    Rich.

That’s a very good point. I would like to see what they can do with one before I jump in.

    Hi Matt,

Thanks for the comprehensive reply, much appreciated.

I must admit I prefer the Grey/Red paint & Gold forks colour scheme on my R over the matt black of the RS. The black RS would have benefitted from some red touches IMHO.

I'm planning to take an RS for a test drive to put my mind at rest, but...

Maybe the answer is a Hilltop remap. Did you take your R in for the full dyno treatment or did you do it by post?

    Gled.

Yes, I had the full dyno re map. It completely transformed my R. I would highly recommend it.

I bought a new Speed Triple ( but old stock ) was offered a lower apr% rate and a grands worth of parts or clothing, The reason I bought the old stock triple was I thought the colour scheme was awesome Granite grey with red frame gold forks, but also for the very reason that Matt said problems with the new bike you find on most new bikes that they seem to have problems when they are first released
I know it’s not a brand new bike and engine as such but the did make lots of changes to it .
I can honestly say the r I have is by far the best bike I have ever owed most planted, smooth best looking in the colour scheme, I’ve owned blades carburated one k1200 it just beats them all hands down imho,
I may look at a new triple in a few years but I’m certainley happy in the meantime, just need some project sc cans for the back end and that should be it

Has the remap smoothed out the “hesitation” on part throttle running found on most fly by wire bikes?
