Well it's nice to know the little buggers have taken an afternoon off from hiding my spanners.

 

At this time of year I would whip the thermostat out and run it without. It will be marginally cold blooded to come up to temp. It will do the engine no harm and you will establish if you have a thermostat or fan switch problem.
Thermostats are pattern items normally retailing for under a tenner. Why am I unsurprised motorcycle parts are ‘special price, special number’? It is not unknown for a thermostat to get ‘sticky’ before jamming shut or open for good. You can put it in a pan of boiling water to check its operation.

 

I take it that the oil in the engine hasn't gone like emulsion. Just to discount cylinder head gasket problem.
