I do want to do a D1 next, dont know what it is wit them bikes, but i have wanted one for years. The XL250s was one of them bargain bikes, it was a field bike but the chap had the V5, and i got it for £50, well it would be rude to turn that down. No where to ride it near me, so the only option was to restore her.

Nice, I remember thrashing the hell out of these bikes in the river beds in new zealand many moons ago. Also had a XR 350 and a IT 465 that was completely mental.

But apart from cam chains those old Honda thumpers are bulletproof :upyeah:

My first bike was an xl250s silver tank. SYL 239N that is about the only reg I remember out of all my bikes. I picked her up from a garage in Edgware and rode her through London to Putney having only been shown how to ride once. I don't think I got out of second. Great bike I had her for three years and despatch rode on her for 2. Great restoration btw

  9. I'd love to do a full restoration on something, trouble is I don't have the patience for it. If I can't bolt it on there and then, I chuck my teddy out and stamp my feet and thkweem and thkweeem and thkweeem
Nice job on the XL

First thing is pictures, lots and lots. Label everything up and try and get a full parts manual. Oh and the most important thing is have lots and lots of cash.
Nuts bolts any metal fasteners, clean them up and have them zinc plated (coast me £40 and that was with the spokes) Black plastics, after tones and tones of research, the only way i could find was the hot air gun, with silicone spray. Try and get the original graphics, the vinyl after market ones stick out like a saw thumb.
the forks, what i did was have them sand blasted, then i polished them, scotchbrite them so they are all dull, and clear powder coated. keep us updated.

    Thanks mega great advice
I have started to srip the bike down but the bike is only running on 2 cylinders so gotta sort that out before
I go any further I suspect the carbs need cleaning as the bike has been standing since 2012
