Alarm and Immobiliser??

I was a bit suprised when I phoned the dealer to ask what security the new speedmaster had fitted and was told nothing except datatag, but the insurance company didn't appear too bothered.
If someone is determined to pinch it they will.

 

Yeah I was a bit shocked to find out my 2002 Daytona had no immobilizer or alarm, so I got myself a Spy 5000m off eBay - it takes about 20 mins to fit (6 wires) and has loads a cool functions, including remote start (if your into that kinda thing) and immobilizer, also has a "Microwave Sensor" so activates the alarm if anyone gets too interested in your bike, love the fact it vibrates and chirps the hand held device if the alarm goes off (apparently up to 5000m away) anyway I feel a little more secure now with this fitted :upyeah:

 

My Explorer has an alarm system, it is a pain, wish I did not bother.

It arms to quickly, I have to dig out the remote to disarm the damn thing everytime I fill up or go into the shop for something.

I recently added a disc lock to the Bonnie insurance and discount received, nil

 

Most new bikes come with a built in immobiliser with the key coded to the bike. Why bother fitting an alarm? They are nothing but trouble: drain your battery, strand you in the middle of nowhere when they wont disarm, wake you and the neighbours up in the middle of the night with false alarms and are completely ignored by the general public when your pride and joy is being manhandled into the back of a van by a pair of thieving scumbags.

 

But what about the guys like me who have older models? (2002 Daytona)

There is no Immobilizer for my bike, so thats why I got myself a decent alarm, the good ones have sensitivity functions, so they dont go off every 2 mins, and they also immobilize the bike, I have to park my bike at the front of my house, so its essential for me to have some kind of warning of a passing piss head walks by and decides he wants to sit on it! or even worse scumbag thieves (they wont get my bike now) and the range of the alarm I fitted is 5000m (apparently) so again I can pop into a shop, or visit friends safe in the knowledge that if someone tries anything funny, my key fob will sound and vibrate to let me know

So for me at least, its worth having the alarm (even if it does go off for no reason sometimes) I will put up with that to be safe!

 

My 2014 America A3 has two different keys. Is an immobiliser fitted? I don't know.

 

The Bonnie came with an Acumen Tempest fitted - I'd prefer to get rid of it and will have it professionally removed when I have time. It doesn't go off but I prefer a big chain and padlock for security and it did immobilise the bike once. The Trident has no alarm and I prefer the simplicity of one key. Spoke to insurance and they said it would make £3.00 difference if I took it off!

 

My last sprint I told carole nash I had a screamer lock which I still have and still got discount.
