Returned to biking after 30 yrs, I bought a 2008 efi Bonneville t100 after reading reading reviews. It's got 9000 miles on and is a bike I can' t help but like! Has anyone got any tips on short tours to Wales or Derbyshire?
Welcome on board. Can't give you any info on Derbyshire and Wales but from Manchester lots of nice riding via the North Staffs Moors down to the Cheshire plain out towards Oulton Park and the big J&S for a brew and a pee near Delamere. Also some fantastic roads in Lancashire, north of Clitheroe into the Trough Of Boland through Waddington, Dunsop Bridge and the Jubilee tower. Even up to Settle, Hawes and further into Yorkshire around Malham, Grassington and Asygarth are all worth a tour round.
Welcome to the forum! You've already started getting some of the good information available from the members, and there is plenty more to be had

Looks like a rifle serial number to me, maybe 7.62mm. Where in Manchester are you ? There's a nice ride over Woodhead, turn right onto A616, right onto mortimer Rd which brings you out onto the Snake and back to Glossop. There's a nice breakfast stop if you take a left off Mortimer Rd down Thompson House Green/Dale Rd to the School House on your right at the bottom. It does pricey but top notch breakfasts. Mortimer Rd was resurfaced a couple of years ago for the Tour de Yorkshire so it's a good surface with plenty of hairpins, hills, forests and reservoirs.
In both areas don’t go too far over the speed limit. Most of Derbyshire is now 50mph and speed cameras can be in areas you wouldn’t normally expect. That said, it’s still very enjoyable at that speed and somewhere I go often. The Snake Pass has some nasty potholes at the moment, bad enough to shake you offline if you get on them so if you venture out that way take care. As has been said Mortimer Road, or “The Strines” has been resurfaced and is a nice run between the A616 and the A57. The run through Hope towards Castleton and then Tideswell and on towards the Cat and Fiddle A537 is also good. This road has been dubbed the worst road in the UK for motorcycle casualties and has average 50mph cameras but providing you don’t blast up to daft speed between the cameras you can still have a lot of fun. The pubs still closed tho, used to be a good place to stop and stretch your legs with a sarnie and coffee. Last time I was up there I saw a mobile sarnie van so you could still get a brew. Your Bonneville is ideally suited to that kind of speeds and roads, enjoy.
Welcome in from Holmfirth, just take the A635 from Manchester, head east and the fun begins. I’m only over the hill if you want to drop by.....
Welcome A963ie. For Wales check out our annual picnic and ride around in July https://www.thetriumphforum.com/threads/gmu-2018-wales-accomodation.10927/page-4#post-189915
