Sunday on the way back to Southport from Glasson dock I got behind a car that was stuck behind two absolute Lycra clad tossers, the car guy saw me (and my mates) coming and did everything possible to attempt to overtake these two wankers. Me being in prime view saw that on this windy road each time a short straight came up the car guy tried to get past, wanker no 1 moved out about 3/4 feet to the right i.e. middle of the road every time. Eventually approx. 2/3 miles later he managed to get past the 2 tossers who then gave him the finger, this really pissed me off so I passed wanker number 1 close but not to close and absolutely nailed it alongside him. When we got back both of my mates were gobsmacked after seeing all the episode from further back than me!
Personally until the wankers have to pay road tax and insurance I would ban them from the public highway. However around our way there are lots of smaller roads used by the Lycra brigade thankfully the majority have a bit of common sense and consideration for the cars and bikes so you can't tar them all etc.

not got a problem with the twats most of the time but when they are side by side taking up full width of road i canny go them,as you said I've seen some drivers resorting to crazy overtaking caused by sheer frustration, then as you pointed out some cheeky twats got brass neck to give you the finger frigging bawbags united.

Now that's a pelaton I could follow all day every day.
When and where are they next out?

The MAMIL (middle aged men in Lycra) is fast becoming the latest menace to grace the roads. Now, I’m glad in one sense that all this interest in cycling is getting people out and excercisng and no doubt generating income for the economy but FFS ride appropriately and don’t block the roads for those of us who actually pay to use them ( in/on the vehicles we are using) Rant over.

This. As someone who often cycles solo into town (about a mile, all urban) I get cut up and pulled out on by impatient idiots in cars all the time. It makes sense for cyclists on the open road where passing speeds are higher to protect themselves by stopping the "squeeze past" brigade but totally agree that larger pelatons are a menace. If cars cannot leapfrog even a small group for mile after mile they should be considerate and pull over. Unfortunately a lot of the MAMILS out there now are the sort of stuck up wankers who used to play golf but have jumped on cycling now instead as it's trendy.

On the flip side a group of cyclists are in some ways better for us. Cars squeezing past a solo rider coming the other was have several times pulled out into may path when on the T100, forcing me into the curb with a wave of the middle finger in response to my flashing headlight warning and use of horn. Passing side-by-side cyclists means Mr Audi is less likely to do so.

I've said it before; there are good guys and asshats in all walks of life.

I endeavour to treat everyone with respect unless they give me cause not to. Some weeks ago I encountered a long queue of traffic caused by a dozen or so cyclists filling the carriageway not only on their side but also moving across onto the opposing one preventing anyone from overtaking them when the road would otherwise have been clear to do so.

That kind of selfish and boorish behaviour is what gives cyclists a bad name and unfortunately it is the minority that cause this. They will claim it was car drivers have cut them up in the past, and yet it is that type of behaviour that probably caused the cut up in the first place.

Neither side will back down since both sides are absolutely convinced that their poor behaviour is justified - and so the vicious circle of mutual hatred continues...

Truth be told I sometimes ride a bicycle to work but the vast majority of cyclists do a number of things that piss me off royally and to be fair these days it isnt just on roads they make a habit of being rude, arrogant and ignorant.
There seems to be a growing number of them seem to think that any ribbon of tarmac is fair game regardless of whether it is a road, cycle path, shared path or footpath. Around where i live there are lots and lots of pedestrian only walkways, blighted by cyclists some of whom attempt to act in a intimidatory way. You point out they shouldnt be there, i usually only do this because they nearly run over one of my dogs or shout at you to get out of the way and you get abused or threatened. I have had one unpleasant individual riding on a pedestrian only path, in the dark, with no lights, within 6 inches of me telling me to get out of his way when you havent heard him coming. When you say this isnt a cyclepath, you get the "am i going to have a problem with you?" routine. I also had a woman almost run one of my dogs over and she had a go at me , "he was going every fuckin where, i didnt know which way to fucking go", apparently "on the fuckin road where you belong" was not the answer to sooth the stupid cow. Whilst this happens not so frequently, close encounters with cyclists on pedestrian only footpaths happens nearly daily.

Cyclists riding illegally on pavement ts is another symptom of not having any real police presence any more. As a kid I was torn off a real strip by the local sergeant for doing so and the message stuck. It's something I don't do when out on my Raleigh now all those years later. The current generation have not had such interactions so think they can do what the hell they like. It's also why so many cars use the bus only cut-throughs in High Wycombe town centre - no police about to catch and ticket them...

Cyclists riding on pavements really pisses me off! Last year on Lord st in Southport (a very busy shopping area) on a Saturday this dickhead on a mountain bike came weaving down the pavement at I'm guessing 12/15 mph, at the time the pavement was full of pedestrians. Said Dickhead was weaving in and out of these people swerved to miss an OAP coming straight for me, decision time for me so I pushed to one side resulting in him falling off and thankfully not injuring anyone but himself. Said Dickhead was about mid thirties jumped up swearing his head off then threatened to punch my lights out, when I asked him if he liked hospital food he realised he'd made a bad choice of words.
Quite a few people came up and thanked me offering their phone number if needed as a witness. Lots of folk ride cycles its just the Dickheads like this that create the problems. Apart from them not having to obey traffic light signals.

Well I seen a pack of about 8 or 9 of the selfish tw#ts at the t junction around the corner from me, it's got traffic lights and they were at the front of the queue taking up the whole lane with a line of vehicles behind them, luckily I was going in the opposite direction.

    :mad:Twats:mad:all of them
Set off from Drymen at 10am today and wasn’t sure wether to ride straight home or get myself lost in Scotlandshire again :)
Feckin roads were full of the Lycra twats
First 10miles made my mind up for me :(
Three times cars had to swerve into my side of the road to avoid them
And before anyone starts blaming the cars it’s the Lycra twats that I blame because these roads are 60mph and Lycra twat head down doing shitty slow speeds spots a pothole and decides the almost middle of the road is a better place to be
I drive a car as well and when this shit happens in front of you...you automatically react:eek: and because you don’t want to hit the Lycra twats (I so want to) a lot of your attention is drawn away from the road by trying too avoid these selfish twats and makes it easy to not spot the motorcycle coming the other way cos we’re about one third the width of a car :worried:
    GRRRRR:mad:
Get these selfish wigglyarsed Lycra pricks off the road.....NOW

    To Dill,
I see where you're coming from, I was out today riding from Southport going to Coastriders Blackpool first dickhead was on the Coast road riding on the road itself ( there is a dedicated cycle path) holding up all the traffic. Second dickhead was on the way to Bretherton a windy country road 40/50/60 MPH Limits he held up the traffic for about 3 miles by being 3/4 feet out from the kerb. Have these knobs got a death wish I ask! They never look behind before moving out and seem totally oblivious to cars and bikes!
    The mind boggles.

I wouldn't mind them quite so much if they made some effort to be seen. The vast, vast majority of them wear dingy clothing and have no running lights in the day time. I've even seen them wearing camouflage coloured Lycra for fukcs sake. Dark clothing on a sunny day on roads with trees alongside means they just can't be seen as they go from a light area to the darkness under the trees. Mostly, they are a bloody menace and should be obliged to wear hivis and use flashing LED's front and back. Individual cyclists are bad enough but mass groups should definitely be banned from public roads. They're usually racing each other or against their own previous best time for route "a to b" and pay no regard to other road users [or traffic lights]. I'm particularly wary of the ones with helmet cams attached to them. They are usually deliberately looking for trouble to record.

Just in case anyone thinks my Avatar might indicate that I'm a horse riding menace - I don't think horses belong on public roads any more than cyclists do. All my riding was done on Ashdown Forest [or, in the picture, on Camber Sands], a very long way from roads and people.

Cyclists, horse-riders, pedestrians, et al should remember that "having a right to be on the road" won't help when a truck runs over you.
