Getting ready to start building this bike. I've never worked on triumphs before. Looking for tips and places to find affordable parts. I have a bolt on hard tail that I think I'm going to weld up, engine ( in need of a top end rebuild I was told), oil tank, and everything else that's in the picture. The bike itself is way too small for me ( 6'1",+250lbs). I was thinking I could stretch the frame and the front end to make it feel bigger. I don't know, again looking for tips and advice.
Hi mate, Welcome to the forum - & the best of British with that project - I wouldn't have a clue where to start!
Welcome to the forum! Good luck on a great project. For what it's worth, a friend of mine had a bobbed twin in the late 60's. I was 6' and 235 lbs at the time and found it to be pretty comfortable to ride. Once you swap over some of the parts and get it together, you may find it's not too bad. I suspect you could raise your seat (or get a larger one) and put better springs under it. Also, a set of wide buckhorn style bars might look good and give you the reach you need/want. You can probably also fabricate some custom 'highway' pegs that would mount easily to the frame you have to work with. I haven't used these sites for parts, but I've come across them when searching for things, and I keep them in my bookmarks. https://www.mrcycleparts.com/?mcp=ppcb&utm_source=google&utm_medium=adwords&utm_campaign=brands2 https://www.uneedapart.com/used-triumph-motorcycle-parts/ You can also try British Customs for some of your needs. Hi n welcome the bolt on hard tail is far better than welding it as it gives you more options later on in life. To gain more leg room try fitting a sprung solo seat made by Lycett and they look real good as well as adding some comfort, as for the engine these little 500's are real sweet but if it req a top end rebuild it usually means that the crankshaft sludge trap is also full :-( and as for the oil tank you could find a standard ridged oil tank or have a custom one built.
