I put Pirelli scorpions on mine be before going up to Scotland last year, worked well in dry and wet, as long as you keep the pressures right they’re good. Look around for a cheap madstad screen, well worth the money.

Pirelli Scorpions on from new - on second set now and would agree with crispey. Pressures are 36 F and 42 R.
I carry a small puncture repair kit bought from Amazon like chuk - there's a handy space under the rear rack if you unbolt it (remember to take the spanner/socket to undo it!).
I also take a small can of chain lube, additional tool kit (mini socket set), spare bulbs - get one of these from Halfords.

Add to your standard tool kit (if still under the seat) the little bag can be filled up with additional spanners -possibly one for the mirrors (14mm?) very annoying if like me you knock one and loosen it. Cable ties are a must and like littleade said gaffa or insulation tape. Don't take a whole roll , wrap some around a spanner to save space.
Don't forget to take your V5 and insurance certificate!

Use photocopies of all your documents for showing officials. But have the originals stashed somewhere really safe for the odd officious git that won't accept copies. ( rare ).

Oh, and keep a spare ignition key somewhere safe.

Invest in a black top box if you have not got one already.

I always carry a damp wash leather in a plastic bag with me to get rid of dead insects from my visor. Some bugs can really obscure vision when they die on your visor.

Incidentally .... what's the first thing that goes through a fly's mind when it hits a fast moving windscreen/visor?
    Its arse!!

    Just saying!

He’s going to Europe, as to the RAC/AA when it comes to bikes they are next to useless.
Usually being recovered for the simplest of things as “ I know nothing about bikes mate” is the first thing they usually say.

It's a top box or soft bag that is the question
