Hi Guys, I have a 2010 Speedmaster with a front wheel slow puncture, it loses about 8lb of pressure a day, I have had a new tyre fitted, I have put it in a water bath and there is no obvoius leak, there is the odd bubble appear round the rim about every 2 mins, but that does not seem to be enough to lose that much pressure, I brought it into work yesterday and had the wheel bead sealed. I checked it this morning and it was 8lb less than last night. I am now at a loss.
Has anyone experienced this or does anyone have any tips on fixing this.

You would think a dip underwater would expose any leak anywhere, guess you have checked the valve? Could try over inflating the tyre by about 25 psi and then re- dip the whole wheel and tyre to see if it exposes the leak.

Yeah I would have thought so, I'll try and over inflate and see if that forces the issue, put a new valve in yeasterday, whats your thoughts on tyre weld or a similar product?

Yep could work but I think I would personally still like to find where the leak was. If its only doing it since the tyre change it could be a defect in the tyre itself, or has the inner rim of the alloy wheel been scored at all by a tyre lever? You can get porous castings within alloys but then the tyre would have always had a slow puncture.
    You can certainly damage them:

This was on my nearly new Ducati and cost me £700.00 + for a new wheel!
I always carry a can of Holts puncture sealer for emergencies.

Done when I hit a pothole :frown:

thats bad luck, bloody pot holes, I think you may be right about the casting , here's what I don't get, I got home from work pumped tyre up to 60 psi , lugged it upstairs to the bath( missus not happy) ran a bath of cold water and spent an hour slowly rotating the wheel in 6" of water checking the rims and the tread of the tyre and not a bubble at all. I have just stripped the lacquer of of my forks and sprayed them black because they were pitted, so I don't want to keep putting the wheel on and taking it back of again coz it will damage the paint. I have left the wheel of with 45psi in it and will check in the morning and see what happens.

I think the words you are looking for rhyme with Clucking Bell

Then again some people will buy this Italian rubbish

I know there has been all sorts of issues with the BMW run flat car tyres cracking the alloys on the wheels (lol what a shame)

There's no point in giving it 60 lbs. That will distort the tyre and possible cause the bead to seal itself.

Just use your normal tyre pressure. Suppose you use 30 lbs. That's 2 atmospheres. A loss of 8 lbs is 1/2 an atmosphere at that pressure.

So half a tyre volume, at everyday pressure, is leaking out in 24 hrs. What's a tyre volume ? A gallon or so ? five to ten litres ?

So five litres in 24 hrs, or 200cc an hour, 3 cc a minute. 3cc a minute is exactly a small bubble from time to time.

So go back to your original dip, and there's your leak.

Thank you Rohart, what an excellent answer, I shall try that.
