    Morning one and all.

Broken my neck, back and a rib falling off the mountain bike back in mid November and as a result not been riding anything with two wheels ( or come to think of it four ) for a while so the Bonnie is tucked up nice and warm in an out building.
I have been incredibly lucky the broken bones bit could have been so much worse.....

However with time on my hands I have been fettling the Bonnie and I am about to upgrade the clutch springs. ( any one know where I can get the spring pressure plate alignment tool from? )
When you go on the TTP site to order them it comes up with the option of ordering the safe start mod at the same time.

Now this is my dilemma as there seems to be a bit of a question around which motors require the mod.
The TTP site states that all engines 2001 - 2016 can use them, however I am under the belief that Triumph upgraded the galleries ( to prevent the problem occurring ).
In fact on Triumphrat, pieman who is the owner of TTP mentions that certain motors don’t need the mod.
So learned ones, my motor is 790 engine No 249390 do I need the mod?

    Thanks for your time.

Glad to hear that you are recovering but it just goes to show how dangerous cycling really is!
I might be wrong but I thought that the later 865 EFI bikes didn't need it but that the earlier bikes ie. 790cc could benefit from it.

    Hi Guys,

The original Safe Start was designed to solve a problem for the earlier 790 engines. In the last couple of years there have been cases where the later engines with the reinforcing webs have suffered the same problem, so we re-designed the Safe Start so that all air cooled engines can now be protected from this problem.

    Regards
    Mike

Just out of interest what is ‘safe start’ as I’ve not come across it before?
