Hi all. This is my first post. Help!!!.
Has anyone experiencing rusting spokes on a Thruxton r rear wheel. My bike only about a year old and well cared for. Bless. Any of thoughts would be appreciated. Steve

Only one cure. Replace with stainless spokes.

I was worried someone mite say that. Cheers for the advice. I will stick with them for a while and get them replaced at a later date. Shame thay never used stainless as standard.

In the meantime fine steel wool, regular coca cola and light elbow grease will clean off rust.

advice is all good but a year old bike and spokes rusting already, don't say much regarding quality of materials used but that's only my opinion.

Take it back to the dealer and ask for their advice!?! But get a record on paper of you having notified them of this problem. Ie send them or head office an email! Good luck and keep us posted.

I did say ‘fine’. It will not mark the spokes. Medium might, coarse will. Fine wire wool used sensibly is less aggressive than a new pan scrub like Scotchbrite.

Think the wheels are made by Excel - I had exactly the same problem 10 years ago on my Ducati SportClassic which also had Excel rims. Doesn’t affect them all though so the dealer will probably say your using the wrong cleaner or something but give it a go.

Thanks for everyone's input. I'm heading to the dealer saturday on a matter of damaging the wheel removing a wheel weight. I'm not having much luck at the moment. So i will let you know how i get on. I wont be holding me breath though. On bikes of this price stainless spokes should be standard surely!!.

Had mine done by CW, did a great job. Think you’ll find that’s per wheel. I had the nipples changed as well.

As far as I remember early bikes with spokes like the 900 thunderbird/legend had stainless spokes and wheels built up by central wheels in Birmingham. They had no problems with spokes breaking although the relative cost of the bikes were much higher in those days,
When you get cost reductions something is going to suffer

hi, yeah i will have the nipples changed as well, just a quick question do you know if the r has the safety bead on the rims for going tubeless its the small ridge in side the rim
have you had any problems going the stainless route ?? is pokes breaking ?? i dont think cw would sell and fit them if there was a problem ,the guy who runs the place is very helpful with going down the tubless route

    Hi Steve

I would mention at the dealers this product is not for for purpose if it rusts after 12 months.
Chrome normally wars well, but if the initial material is of poor quality and has inclusions in it then rusting will occurs.
    Good luck

totally agree i wouldn't expect corrosion on a year old premium bike brand,if it were a Chinese cheaply made and inexpensive bike you may expect that,in saying that my son had a skyteam Chinese off road bike and no issues with it served its purpose to intro him to dirtbiking.

Great news on the wheel front guys. My friendly Triumph dealer is replacing the wheel under warranty. All thay want is a picture of the bike and a photo of the milege to get the wheels in motion.
