The Bonnie Questions Start....

    So, the bike arrived yesterday and was wheeled straight in the garage.
    I've been out tonight to check it over and see what's what and also what's in the two boxes that came with it....

    First box is two std silencers in good condition.
    Second box is a bit more intriguing.
    First off there's another couple of silencers that look std but have a larger hole and one of them has scrapes down it.
    I checked the part numbers and they appear to be japanese market only pipes :neutral:
    No idea why they were with the bike.

    There were the std downpipes in there, a couple of small indicators with a bracket to mount them where the regulator is and a plastic bag full of bits.

    So an easy question first.
    Should the left hand down pipe have a dent in it as per the pics ?

    Next question, a bit trickier I suspect...

    This is what came in the bag of bits.
    Some are obviously from the std system fittings (the bike came with an Arrow 2-1 fitted) but others I don't have a clue.
    i.e. what's the two, what look like carburettor, jets for ?

    Nice bike Enjoy, I cant help with the bits,although I suspect the dent in the exhaust is intentional

    The large headed bolt with the larger rubber bush is for fitting the LHS std. end can. The TEC exhaust will almost certainly be using one on the RHS.

    The thick rubber bush with the 'tit' on the end is a bump stop the the side stand. The black support plate is to mount the bump stop.

    The round spring clip is to hold the baffle in the end can of the TEC system.

    You're on your way to a second bike TC. :p
    I agree with biglad, most of the bits are related to the silencer which has been removed.
    The brass items must be carb related.
    'Dented' exhaust is clearance for the stand.
    Nice looking bike, have fun.

    Thanks for clearing up the downpipe dent question and what the ciclips for :)

    I have the baffle for the Arrow system but couldn't work out how it was kept in, any previous cans I had always used a bolt of some sort, so that's something learnt today.

    I suspected the unknown bits may be from something else altogether.
    As there's two of each of the brass bits, maybe the previous owner had a carb'd Bonnie before this one ?

    I may be using the std downpipes later with a set of TORs cans.
    I'll wait until we have some better weather to ride the bike (so probably May next year) for a while before deciding what I'll be changing on the suspension and engine side.
    Initially it'll be stuff like tha AIS and O2 sensor removals.
    I'll do a few bits over the winter like adding the tacho, moving the ignition switch and changing odds and sods like the seat bolts etc.

    In the meantime, I might have an exhaust sale as we now have 4 sets of Bonnie exhausts not being used. :grinning:

    So it's been quite interesting looking through the stuff related to the bike.

    The bike itself is fine, but so far I've found the following :-

    2 sets of std exhausts, one set of which is Japanese market only.
    1 steering lock key but 3 ignition keys to make up for the missing steering lock one.
    A couple of carb jets as spares for an EFI bike
    And the final one, 2 pieces of paper relating to the cost of burying a 76 year old !

    Not sure I want to dig any further ;)

    The larger than stock main jets were shipped with the Triumph off road silencers which were needed when fitted to carb bikes.
    The EFIs simply got a new tune.

    I did wonder if the previous owner might have had an carb'd Bonnie before, that would explain the jets then.

    Maybe the 'Jap spec' silencers with the larger orifice were the TORs pipes for the older Bonnies then ?

    If you still have an unbutchered end on your Arrow 2-1 this baffle will really make it sing from deep down and breath unrestricted. Stock baffle on the left, my one on the right. I've lost the dimensions but it's easy to work out what's required with the silencer to hand.

    BTW if anyone wants some Bonnie exhausts, I have a selection of 6 different ones : unamused:
    2 x std
    1 x Jap spec
    1 x 2:1 Arrow system
    2 x TORS

    The bike's currently got the 2:1 Arrow on it, but the more I look at it, the more I think it doesn't look right and I'm going to put the TORS 2:2 system on....
    The Arrow is lighter and no doubt more power, but if I really want more power, I'll just jump on the Speed :)

    Don't forget that you may have to fabricate a centre stand stop as they use the LH exhaust to mount the rubber bung (with a "tit" on it).
    As for the exhaust with the bigger hole in it...may I add my "tenpennorth" The later Bonneville had larger exit holes as standard. This was from 63 plate ish models. I can't tell you the exact diameter.

    The centre stand stop bracket is on the silencer, so I should be ok.

    Ah right, still strange that he had two sets of std exhausts?
    Having said that, we now have 3 sets of std exhausts ! :rolleyes::D

    The tors have the same mounts rubber holes on the left only difference was the bigger hole in the end more of an open free flowing pipe with more noise different part number and stamped not for road use

    If you fit a left hand exhaust without a stop or remove the exhaust completely (2-1) you could use something like this which was made from an old meat cleaver for the centre stand stop.

    The stand pivot bolt nut secures the plate to the frame, the nut on the other end of the button head stops the plate from rotating and the cut out depth is increased to suit to provide the required stand clearance needed for cornering clearance.
