    Hi,

I've just picked up my 05 Speedy with only 10k miles on her. I've not gone far yet (york-helmsley-whitby-durham) but she handles well (a bit firm at the front) is torquey and I love the pops and crackles on the overrun. Always wanted a 1050 and enjoyed the torque of the old sprint, it produced stealthy speed which crept up on me without realising ha ha.

I doubt I'll get out much once the salt goes down, she's in too good condition for that.

So I'm writing out my Christmas list with all my planned accessories and bling to be fitted ready for spring. Bar end mirrors, single sided paddock stand, sports rack, rad cover, fender extender, shorty levers, etc. I can't see that I'll get them all but that's what evilbay is for.

Looking forward to reading around the forum for hints and tips.

    Cheers,

    Paul

Thanks guys, just had a chance to look her ove today after picking her up on friday. I'll be needing a new battery! It only had enough power to let me change the clock time and that was it!! I'd switched off the ignition Friday tea time but not locked the bars - would that result in it draining the battery??

It's on the charger now to see if it can be recovered but in my experience with second hand bikes, I nearly always find they're shot and need replacing.

It's a Yuasa YTX12-BS but it looks old, eBay has a Poweline Motorcycle Battery 12V 10Ah for £30. Anyone used one of these, it's certainly cheap enough!

And I'll be buying a second battery charger!

don't know about the power line batteries somebody may be more clued up,if the yuasa is not much more i would go for that they are original fitment in tons of bikes, should get decent deal if you look hard enough.

Welcome Hogi, you'll get plenty of help here spending your Christmas money. ;):)
I'd recommend Motobatt if you can afford it, they seem best for surviving winter lay-ups IMO. Failing that Yuasa, only ever bought a "cheap" battery once - wasn't cheap 'cos it barely lasted a year.

Thanks for the welcomes chaps, it's a nice little club and am enjoying looking around :grinning:

The battery "problem" turned out to be the heated grips being wired straight to the battery rather than the ignition. New charger put that to rights and a lesson learned for me, never assume on stuff like accessories

But if the battery is failing, then thanks for your tip, a motobatt definitely looks to be the way forward. Buy cheap, buy twice.

Nice trip out around kielder last week but the gritters are out meaning she needed cleaning down after a cold ride. Brrr. But she's all tucked up now for winter:pensive:
