I have imported my Bonneville from UAE into UK and applied for registration. This has been rejected as the European certificate of conformity does not state MPH dual speedo and left dip headlight. No surprise but I thought it would be registered and then I'd have to go to test and then get the replacement parts...then test again job done.

But I've been instructed to ring the Vehicle Certification Agency to see whether I needed a Mutual Recognition Certificate. The phone auto answer tells you to go to the department of transport department website. Which has been down since yesterday.

I managed to find the Motorcycle Mutual Recognition Application form online and it said this route was not for bikes imported from outside europe. So I managed to talk to a VCA agent who gave me the number for the DVSA who would control this.

Very helpful DVSA lady who said I need to do the Motorcycle Single Vehicle Application test after changing out the headlight and speedo and reseting the speedo to MPH. And to do so I should fill out the MSVA test Form 1.

I've downloaded this form and I'm not sure it is the right one.

Has anyone had any experience of importing a Triumph, or any bike come to that?

Thanks for any help although I imagine this is unusual......I wouldn't do it again!

Sounds a complicated process. Did you live in UAE or just buy it there because it was cheaper?

Lived there. I don't really know if it's any cheaper. I paid 44,000 aed for ex demo 2015 model with a few hundred kliks on it. At the time, June 2015, the exchange was maybe 5.6 aed to 1 gbp?....if so about 7,850 GBP. No idea what they cost here.

So I've got to the stage of filling in the motorcycle single vehicle approval application for a ministers approval cert MSVA 1.

All filled out except they want the month aswell as the year of manufacture. It's a 2015 built at Hinkley. But there is no month of manufacture available from the data plate or a VIN check.....or on triumphs own breakdown of the VIN.

Anyone know if Hinkley would give the information if asked for?
    Thanks for any info/feedback.

That's a good point DD. I am trying to do things properly but if there is no result I will get the dealer I bought it from to tell me the month haha.
    Much appreciate the reply!

It's a real pain to import even from the EU, so I don't envy your task with a bike from outside of it. If you have the original invoice, use the first reg date as date of manufacture - that's what we did on the old man's Citroen.

Even with EU import, every time we sent what they asked for, they sent stuff back saying "and we now need this as well" or "The MOT test station has not used the words in the order that we want to tell us that the speedo is now in mph....."
