Clutch Not Working, Bike Been Stood For A While

Hi Ted when I bought mine it had stood two years and it did this, I put on center stand got engine warm and put into secound after a few minutes it started too vibrate then a few bangs and then it freed itself also the clutch fluid was too full so let some out all good now. Ade

 

Had a similar issue in the past when have left bikes stood for 6 months. Basically start the engine and let it get warm at tickover then hold the revs at about 6k for a few minutes. Sounds a bit radical but it will warm the oil sufficient to free the clutch. When I store bikes now I cable tie the clutch lever in to prevent this. Hope this works for you.

When you removed the clutch plates did you remove all of them ?

Did you check that they were all separated ? and all the metal plates were clean both sides ?

Did you oil them all before reassembly ?

Even one pair of plates stuck together or with debris stuck to a plate may hang up also did you check the edges of the basket for marks / damage

You should see cover part 11 move out away from the rest of the plates in the clutch pack as it is pushed out by the pushrod.

With the bike on the center stand and the rear wheel Off the ground

If you fasten back the lever to the grip and pop the gearbox into gear

With The Ignition key in your pocket ............... you should be able to turn the back wheel which in turn moves the gearbox and clutch but does not turn over the engine

This may feel stiff but should move

Ensure you rotate the wheel in the correct direction as if it were moving the bike forward ( rotating the engine backwards could possibly damage the cam chain tensioner )

Test only ...........
as it should prove if the clutch is releasing, and you should be able to see the clutch cover lift freeing the plates, you should be able to feel the plates are free ( small amount of clearance ) or if theyre catching on anything in the clutch basket.
