Tamper proof ECU

Really, is this the case? If you can save a Map to a PC, run diags etc them it's not a tamper proof ECU? I have a 2013 rocket (2014 model) and can do this but am a little weary of actual ECU changes!

So far I've not seen any doing ECU updates with a 2014 rocket posted anywhere and so am being a bit of pussy right now not wanting to bugger the new bike up! I would like to remove the speed limiter setting and adjust the clocks though for now...

Where did you find out about this? Can I get confirmation from anyone who knows first hand?

 

Look on the Tune ECU website. TuneECU_Start
You may not see any ECU updates as they are straight from Triumph... You will find Maps I assume from people who have altered the ECU for new exhausts etcetc...

 

Yes, but I am not interested in those settings, I am interested in the overall speed limit (196kph by default I think) and the % adjustment for the clocks to get them closer to the real figure...

Custom maps are detailed "up to VIN # 574812" which is quite old, my VIN is ovver 600000...but the Rocket III is not listed on the "do not try it" list on TuneECU....just no concrete info so I'll sit tight for now, I'll try asking the TuneECU developer too...

 

Just got confirmation from the TuneECU gang that if I can save the bike's map to the laptop and run diagnostics (as I have done with my 2014 Rocket III) that the ECU is not a tamper proof one...looks like I'll be making some changes soon

At THIS MOMENT in time I am not interested in all the other settings.....at this moment in time! And yes it is mostly about acceleration, which works just fine in the Rocket as it happens, but I have hit that limit a couple of times due to the good acceleration so don't want it there, end of. I don't race on a track so I have no need for a super sports...

The only point of messing with fuel maps is when you need to because you change the characteristics of the bike though swapping out air filters / exhausts etc right? Which I wont be doing for another 2 years, so no need for any change. No doubt later I will start messing with all that just as I have already with my KTM after the warranty was over...

I also like a speedo that is accurate so I will be able to have that now....far more useful to me than f'ing around with fuel mappings with a stock bike

Thanks for the heads up as it definately got me closer to what I needed to find out.....see it from my side though...what if you didn't know what you were talking about and just talked cr4p like so many on the net and I listened to you and f'ed up my ECU, would have been stupid of me right...as it happens you weren't talking cr4p

To be fair you can also see small improvements by tuning the standard bike.
But if you want to wait till your warranty is up that's your call and your bike...
Me, my bike was 4 weeks old when I tuned it.. If it goes wrong I just put the standard map in place..
