hello everybody my name is jason i live in northamptonshire i have had bikes all my life and many different bikes over that time have been lurking for a couple of days now and now have joined the club as its a very friendly forum i have been looking at the thruxton r as had a big accident last year and have a v strom 1000 and after this years classic tt i have come to the point its just way to big for me and very top heavy its a great bike and chews the miles up but have come to the point now is i need something smaller i have problem swinging my leg over as hip got a bit smashed up in the accident i saw a couple of thruxton r s at the tt and loved the look of them so thats set my mind for looking at then so i went into my dealers (pure truimp wellingbrough) who were fantastic and had a sit on there demo and was very surprised how small they and no probs on my leg etc i have a test ride in a couple of days on a thruxton r so we will see what happens ride safe jason
Hi Jason and welcome in to the Triumph ward for insane bikers - sounds like you'll fit right in Thruxton R : 1200 cc's of pulsating power, ohlins suspenders, Brembo stoppers - quality quality quality.
Hi and welcome......... You know what is going to happen once you have had a test ride don't you? Wessa
Welcome and as said test as many as you can - you will know what works for you.Triumph is a great brand that makes machines for all purposes and riders. All the best..

Hi Wizard, Welcome to the forum. I came to a similar conclusion when I parted company with my Aprilia RSV1000R Factory this year. I decided it was too sport/track focused and it was time to change it for something more versatile. Fortunately for me it wasn't an accident that prompted the change. The Thruxton R is an amazing bike and a potential future bike for me. Let us know how the test ride goes. Gled.
hi guys, many thanks for the very warm welcome i have received well i had a test ride on the thruxton r and i have to say i was very impressed with it and the more i rode it the more i like it and 2 hours in to the ride i thought i had better take it back . its such a small ,light ,flick-able bike fantastic brakes ,it has the same power as my v strom so no big surprise there. mind you its years since i rode a naked bike so that was something that was the main thing that was different as with the v strom you sit in it and have the fairing and clocks all around you but with the r sit on it and boy its so small and thats the thing i liked the most as after my accident last year my hip was smashed up (bloody car driver doing a u turn ) and getting on and off the v strom was getting painful and its a very top heavy bike and once it starts to go theres no stopping it and with my hip just do not have the power and its a situation that happened once and so the time has come for it to be moved on so i can continue biking for a few more years yet so the search begins for a thruxton r watch this space ride safe jason
Welcome Jason. Yeah, the Thruxton R is an amazing piece of kit. Reading your posts it looks like you are after a pre-owned rather than new one. As Martin (figwold says) when you are sorted contact him/me here and we'll meet up. A few of us regularly ride out your way of a weekend (so long as you don't mind hob-nobbing with a Corbyite - me). Also check out Oakley MC over near Bedford. It's a good crack of a Thursday evening. Btw, I work at Wellingborough's sister shop over in Woburn. The lads at Wellingborough will sort you out if you're in the market for new. And of course, their demo will come up for sale at some stage if you want to express an interest. We do have a customer here with an R who may be trading it in in the next few months for new. I'll keep you in mind. We can usually do a decent price on a quick turnaround 3 month warranty rather than used approved.
hi , many thanks for the message yes have been to truimph wellingbrough and talking about the r and looking at new a bike .i did go to wales to view a secondhand thruxton r but that did not work out with px and a few issues withe the bike ,but i did pop into there local dealer down there and got talking etc and they have come up good with a price to swap over which i was happy with they have left it with me to think over .i did call wellinbrough but they unable to match the deal bit of a shame reply as i would have liked to give them my potential order when sorted i will take you up on a meet up that would be really nice regards jason
Hi Jason. Good luck. Don't forget you can always get your bike serviced here at Woburn, and I'll make the brew. Also We do have a customer here with an R who may be trading it in in the next few months for new. If your deal falls through let me know and I'll keep you in mind. We can usually do a decent price on a quick turnaround 3 month warranty rather than used approved.
hi rich, sounds good to me on the service front and the brew do you keep any of the goodies for the r ie chain guard have looked on truimphs website and there black, machined ,and gunmetal but the machined and gunmetal look the same can you give any help in that area if you could its a bit had without the parts in front of you jason
We stock some of the goodies. Some on display, some upstairs in store room. From what I can see on stock list we have one chain guard in stock, no idea which bike. I'll look in a minute cos I have to go upstairs for something else shortly. Edit. It's the 'clear' anodised one for the Thruxton. There's 'black', 'grey' and 'clear' in the catalogue. The clear is as close to chrome as you'll get. One of our customers has had lots of 'clear' parts put on his and had them polished. They come up a treat. He sometimes brings it over to Oakley Club on Thursday evenings and to Woburn on a Saturday.
