Good afternoon to all Guy's & Gal's that frequent this wonderful forum.

Well, just a little about myself.
Male, and if the family are to be believed a grumpy one at that.
Personally, I disagree, not a modicum of truth in it.
When you reach your mid 60's and a couple, things like having a little moan when woken from a deep afternoon nap, are, well to my way of thinking,a right of passage ;)

Having a little moan when you can't find the car keys or the keys to the garage, your spec's and so on, when you are 100% certain where you left them and it's blatantly obvious to you that someone else has moved them just for the sheer hell of it. Again, rightly earned !!!

Born, Bred & Raised in Woking, Surrey, That's the poor part of Surrey !!!
Recently put out to pasture, had bikes since I was 16 years of age.
Married for near 44 years to the same sweet girl I met back in the mid 60's whilst doing my Evening News paper round.
2 grown up Children, unfortunately no Grandchildren as yet.
    Life long Joiner by trade.
Last 5 years a Facilities Co-Ordinator for a centre for disabled children and young adults, the most enjoyable 5 years of my whole working like, just wish it could have continued, but as they say,' all good things must come to an end '
    Interests.....
Bikes, well had to be top of the list.
Any form of Motor Sport, 2 wheels tops that list.
Our dogs, a Golden Retriever who's a very old gentleman, and a year old Jack Russell, who thinks she owns the place.
I love watching Cycling, to old and decrepit to throw my leg over one let alone ride one. Can't wait for Le-Tour to kick off next month.
Watches, now I have to be careful here for a few reason's......
1, I know bugger all about them, could never afford the one's I'd love to own, but the workings of a quality watch I find mesmerising.
2, There is a member on here that frequents the same watch forum that I'm also a member of, He's a highly respected member of that forum, I know he to enjoys his toys and of course his watches.
I have read many of his restoration threads over the last few years, and if he's reading this he'll be thinking, who the hell is this nutter.
Rest assured Mr R I'm not a stalker LoL, fire me a PM and I'll fill you in

Other interests include, Walking, Nature, and of course fettling anything mechanical.

Reason for joining, well it a bit of a return to the Triumph fold tbh.
    I've just bought a beautiful 1 owner 2007 T100 Bonnie.
It's the third ' New Generation ' Bonneville I've had in the past 6/7 years.
By far the cream of the crop of the 3, that's not saying that the others were sheds.
I'll pop up some photo's once I get round to taking a few good un's.
Also had a couple of the reals one's back in the day, if only we had a crystal ball, I think the last one I sold I got £50 in P/X for a brand new CB 250 when they 1st came out, I know for a fact the Triumph went for scrap.

I've followed the forum as a means of interest and enlightenment for the past months since retiring.

So, now you're all bored ridged with my aimless meandering I'm off to ask some questions about new tyres for the Bonnie.

Thanks for taking the time to read this......TBB.

By jingo TBB that's a hell of an introduction, feel like I've known you for years now.
Welcome to the forum and enjoy the banter!
Avon Roadriders seem to be a regular choice of tyre for the Bonnies.

Thanks for the warm welcome guy's.
Also a nod to MickEng for the heads up on the Avon RR's
TBH, I'd sort of made up my mind to have those fitted and after
reading a few posts in the tyre section and Mick's reply I'm going have a pair fitted on Monday for defo.

Welcome TBB. Chatting to a chap on a Thruxton yesterday who swears by those Road Riders too.

Can't remember what's on my SE, but whatever they are (probably stock - I'll check later on) they always seemed okay till last night doing 90-95-ish round the bends on the old A421 the bike got a bit flappy in the breeze and I had to ease back. Bloomin' annoying. Then again, most likely a dozy old-age thing and not the rubber.

    Welcome to this great forum!

Since you mentioned watches: a mechanical world of amazing ingenuity!
It was mentioned in some other thread but at this point, I'd like to salute to John Harrison, the famous watchmaker.
His story is one of the most spellbinding that I ever read when it comes to biographies...
...and since it is also linked to terrestrial navigation, I could not put the book down.

If in any case, you should not have read this book, here is a link:

    https://www.amazon.de/Longitude-Gen...TF8&qid=1498371489&sr=1-2&keywords=dava+sobel

And if you do not like Amazon; it is called Longitude, by Dava Sobel.

Ah, and this reminds me of another watch. The design goes back to Charles Lindbergh and it was made by Longines some years back:

    IMG_0692.JPG

    It addresses the same problem.

But enough now! I just remembered: this is a rider's forum ;)

Anyway, have a great time on here!

    Cheers, Daniel

Good shout Daniel. Proper old fashioned genius was John Harrison. There's a cracking good documentary on BBC4 from time to time, also a decent film with Michael Gambon and also this documentary on NOVA.

And that just exemplifies what a great forum this is.
Biglad and several others on the forum put me onto the Roadriders so I cannot take all the credit, but it's great to know that genuine helpful advice is being passed on and used.
I've also read on the forum to take it steady for the first 70 miles or so with the new tyres, until the silicone mould release wears off.
I am sure I saw a YouTube clip of Delboy with a scouring pad and washing up liquid making chicken strips and new tyres safer

    Hi All,

Bit of an update on the tyres, took the " Wheels " to a specialist fairly close to me mid week for the new tyre fitment.
I decided on the Roadrider's in the end. I was very pleased with their quote and have had tyres fitted by these guy's before, so why not.

Took around 45mins, free coffee & WiFi what's not to like.

The fitter even carried them back to the car for me, happy days, getting on a bit does have it's perk's.

TBH being a chap the wrong side of several decades I've evolved into a bit of a trustworthy old g*t, and when I have anything done by " Specialist " I put my total trust in them.
This week was no acceptation, WRONG MOVE on my part.
I drove all the way back to TBB Towers happy in the knowledge that a nice couple of hours in the garage was on the agenda for the afternoon programme.

So, home I arrive, unload the goodies, nice cuppa tea, and off into the haven that is the garage.
First thought, nice looking tyres, yes, round and black, but woah, hangon a minute, closer look is needed, eye's and age, not as good as they blah blah,

Yep, you guessed, they've put the sodding front tyre on the wrong way round.

You will now be asking yourself as I did, why the F*****G H didn't you check them when loading them in the car - Numpty and a few other names sprang to mind.
Well, those amongst you that noticed I'd highlighted the word " Specialist " was indeed the very reason I'd not even given it a second thought as I happily put them in the car.
So onto the phone we go, I don't do raging, it gets you nowhere, chat answered the phone so I asked to speak to Fitter " A " off went the chap, came back after a few moments to say he's involved with a customer at present and could he help.
So I explained, blah blah blah, to which he replied, ah, yes, I do know there was some deliberation as to which way the tyre should be fitted, and it was decided by Fitter "A" that he was right so fitted as he did.
He went on to explain, erm, most bike's have twin discs nowadays sir, I replied, and the point your trying to make is ? you can still put the tyre on round the wrong way.
When asked, well why when I was sitting only a few meters away, didn't the fitter come and ask which side the single disc is in relationship to the direction of the front wheel ? Logical question I think you'll all agree ?
Oh, he replied, He thought he was right !!!!!!!!!!!!
He then said, If you'd like to pop it back over, we'll turn it round at no extra charge !!!!!
Another 35 mile round trip, and you'll do it for nowt, my patience at that point was as you can imagine being put under severe pressure.
I said I try to get back that afternoon.

So, another cuppa tea, quick scratch of the head and off I go to my local
    Murdertyre.
Now as you can imagine, 1st thoughts, Hmmm, will they be happy in doing this job as they have no vested interest in the operation, lets be honest, he's bought the tyre elsewhere, and now want's us to put their cockup right.

So I arrive, suitably embarrassed, spin them a story about, bought wheels, eBay - part of deal was new tyres fitted by seller, arrived this morning, but on checking, they've put front tyre on AAF.

Never mind Sir, we'll take care of that for you, no problem.
So 15 min's later and £15 lighter in the pocket, the job is done.

On arriving back home and for the second time that day the wheel was unloaded.
Kettle on, tea made, sat pondering the mornings event's in somewhat disbelief.
Main thought, what If I hadn't have noticed the tyre, refitted it and went off to try the new tyres out.
The unthinkable happens, a dog runs out in front on me, I brake, bike folds under me, slide up the road, Kit knackered, bike bent, say £700 quids worth of damage, what would " Specialist Fitter A " have to say in his defence ?

I have posed this question twice now in a polite email to the company asking for a refund of the cost to have the tyre changed round, or goods to the value of so to speak.
I'm not asking for the blokes head on a plate, or for him to be fired, we're all human and do make mistakes.
What I do expect is an acknowledgement of my email at least.
Up until time of posting this I've not heard a thing from them !!!

Moral of the story, Always check yourself, Never trust anyone - Specialists or not !!!

After all that typing, I'm off as you may well of guessed, to put the kettle on and then catch up with today's MotoGP practice session.

    Have a great Weekend guy's

    Ride Safe.

    TBB.
