where the fuse to the ecu is? Checking volts to the earth side. ignition off shows 12+ soon as I turn ignitions on it drops to 9volts.should it do that??

No should read full battery voltage ! ECU not reponding because it can't, insufficient power to run !! :)

I am thinking right capt, the two wires coming from the ecu fuse are brown wires with white chasers.... One would be power one would be earth.there's 12v plus getting to ecu power and minus.hopefully get a charger hooked on this week end once I get it back home.cos tried to batteries an it still drop's 12.3 v .with the ignition on

Both brown wires with the white tracer will be the same polarity either + or - not as you describe them, possibly mis-described, they will be differently colour coded as + or - .

Solid brown is the most generally used ground / - colour.

When you first switch on the power you may well see an immediate drop in voltage which recovers within a short while as the ECU etc are reactivated / powered up.

I would check that you don't have another power drain on the battery, such as lights or something else switched on.

Try pulling the fuses for everything else except the ecu and recheck voltage at switch on, it should dip then recover within 30s to 1 min and I would expect to see 12.5 - 12.7 volts at the battery terminals depending on battery type, age etc.

Triumph ground is usually black with a yellow tracer.

Didn't know that thanks, something for me to be aware of.

Is that a historic thing or more recent change ?

Thanks, just wondered if it was a carry over from the original wiring colours, every day is a school day.

Damn I've been at school a long time :)
