Hi Guys Unlike most of you guys I don't have a bike picked out yet, I'm looking to research where to start with a new to me triumph which will be my first British bike in over 40 yrs, so I have a lot of reading to do . I currently ride a BMWR1100RT which I have had for over 8yrs now I tend to get attached to things lol.

Hello Oldyam and welcome to the Triumph Asylum - if you haven't already guessed we're a bit barmy - in the nicest possible way - on here. Re you new to you Triumph, have you given any thought yet to what style of bike you might like ? Classic? Cruiser? Fast road bike, adventure bike? I've had a number of BM flat twins including the 1100RT so I know where you're coming from - what direction are you heading though ???
I guess I'll fit right in then as I'm nuts anyway. My initial thoughts were an original, but, looking at some of the silly prices that may not be an option. So I'm currently looking at possibly a trident 900 or similar or maybe possibly a T100 865, which is why I'm here doing a bit of research on the options. Unless someone has an original Trident that they'd like to donate to a good home ........
Whilst youre humouring me, is there anywhere like the Realoem ( BMW ) site but for triumph parts ? I found the fowlers one but it seems slow and a bit awkward to use or are the parts listings available on CD ?
A Trident 900?? Way to go man!! Currently not for sale. And yes - the side reflector on the radiator cowl did make a successful break for freedom recently! BASTID!!
One of my concerns with the 900 motors is parts availability eg waterpumps, I'm not happy fitting 2nd hand critical parts and from what I've found today there are no parts available all I can find is stuff on back order. But I found this 1993 ...... And I thought my luck was in, a beautiful trident you have there !!!
Have a look at www.worldoftriumph.com in the parts section. Lots of bits still available (water pump £154.10). Bought my Trident new in 1995 and still got it!
We may be called the Triumph Asylum - but we're not THAT mad An early 900 or an efi Bonny would be good choices and they're both nice bikes and hold their money really well, as Triumph is on such a roll these days.
Thanks @littleade I'm well used to that by now and all the old jokes about bmw riders . I've had the current R1100RT for 8 yrs now and she's served well with some 65k ( including 1 x 1000 mile day ) I've put on the clock plus 35k when I bought her. I hope someone can enlighten me about the indicators fitted to the 900 Tridents, were they common across the triumph range or are they peculiar to the trident ? as I'm looking to return whatever I get back to as original as possible, are there any bits that are difficult / impossible to get ? Are s/h parts readily available or like hens teeth ? Luggage & fittings ? I'm going to have a look at the Trident in the pic in post 10 tomorrow so any info about common issues / things to look for would be greatly appreciated TIA
Well I made the hours ride out yesterday to try out the Trident 900, didn't even get out of the car park found the whole thing too small, seat too low ( didn't agree with the arthritis ) and difficulty getting comfortable reaching over the tank to the bars ( problems with the sunken chest ). So I decided to have a wander up to Dublin Triumph to have a look at what they had in stock, unfortunately no one seemed to be interested as the showroom stayed empty for the whole half hour as I wandered looking at the new bikes. Having tried a god few minutes sitting on each of the bikes, I found the new T120 and the T100 the most comfortable riding positions ( meaning I don't end up in pain within a minute or two ) and a lovely light cable clutch. Can anyone tell me if the earlier T100 / Bonnie has the same seat height / footrest setup as the new 2017 machines as there were no s/hand machines in at all. Or are there any other models I should be looking at ? TIA
Not sure on that one but as I have a 'cast wheel' 2013 bonneville I can tell you that the T100 is taller from same era.
Welcome. I returned to biking after a lon lay off ended up with a 2012 Bonnie cast wheels and TORS pipes. Looked and sounded glorious. But I am 6 feet tall and found it a but small. After it was written off
I bought a very low milage Thunderbird 900. It is a bit top heavy but you can get a really good one for under £3500 wheras Bonnies go for a lot more. Try riding a triple and a twin as they are very different. Also do you want carbs or injection?
