    Hi All

Just a mention, not sure if this is in the right category (sorry if wrong).

Had problem with my Datatool alarm and got in touch with Staffordshire Triumph and it appears there is a recall on most of the alarms fitted over the last 2 years.
Mine falls into this category and they have ordered me a new one even though out of warranty.
Apparently the alarm can cause cutting out or failure to start.

Worth checking if you have one fitted.

    Mark :)

    Hi Dozer

    Thanks for letting me know.
I found out the hard way.
Perhaps I should look on this site a bit more often

    Cheers :)

I had the same problem and they offered a free replacement. In the end went for a Tracker which they supplied and fitted for free. Though I did have to pay £50 for 6 months monitoring.

This GPS tracker is monitored from your own smart phone.
Insert a prepaid phone SIM card with credit on it, get your smart phone telephone number recognised on the GPS so it is approved access.
The all you have to do is call the number of the SIM in the tracker, hang up and you then get a Text message back with a link to a Google Map location
Click the link and your bike shows its location on Google Maps.

£15 on Amazon for the tracker, £10 credit on the SIM and you are all set to track your bike for as long as there is credit.

    Amazon Link

Just install it with a permanent live feed and the earth going to the frame. It takes 0.03 amps to run

My bike doesnt have a Datatool :(

From what I have been reading on the forum with regard to police responses to theft, can anybody tell me what the procedure is once you track a stolen bike ?

I regularly see bad reports on Datatool alarms across various forums.
I've been using them now for over 15 years and never had a problem with one.
No idea why, must just be lucky I guess.

The TS one was replaced under the recall, but the one they replaced was still working fine.
The only alarm I've ever had a problem with was a Meta alarm, which got lobbed.

I'm getting the new alarm taken off the TS and put on the new bike. That said I'm also going to get a tracker put on it as well.:)

'Touchwood' no problems with my Datatool S4 but I am wary of parking up near large electrical masts etc. just from what I've read of other Datatool users bad experiences.

my speed is just over a year old now and on its third datatool alarm, first one was faulty, would not let you into engineers mode to change settings.
Second one was done on a recall, just as well...was on the way to local triumph dealers a bout 30 miles away to get it swapped and of all the luck, the engine cut just as i pulled into their car park.
Dont have much faith in them now

I don't have faith in any alarm, cost a fortune, drop your insurance by a fiver (if you're lucky), cause problems when they go wrong........... cant beat a big fu*k off chain. Preferably with a large angry dog with big teeth attached to it.
Bit impracticable when you're out tho :)
