Hi all, looking to pick the grey matter out there and see what comes back (helpful and entertaining all welcome :D)

So the story begins, took the bike out on Thursday, nice and dry sunny night, it's only right. However only got about a mile and the engine died, still had power to the instruments and lights but when hitting starter button wouldn't even think about firing. Turning on and off the ignition the fuel pump wasn't kicking in, so resulted in a long push home.
Tested the battery and it only had 6volt, so charged it up, 12.6volts, put it back in and fired but charge was dropping to 11.6volts. Set revs to 4000 and measured but still at 11.6volts.
Thought to myself it's the original battery, so got a new one full charge at 12.6 volts, installed and it fired so chanced it (the fool I am) and went a very local run, but died again, this time it has an engine management light on and the fuel pump runs when I turn on the ignition, but just won't try to ignite. Pushed back to house again (only about 600meter this time woohoo) and measured voltage, down at 11.3volts this time.
I've got my suspicions but would like to hear all your thoughts, and I apologise for the long winded post, but I thought it best I paint a full picture.

My initial thoughts are it is your stator or rectifier has died. No charge getting to the battery
A healthy battery should give you 12.6v+ when engine and electrics are off. Up to 14.6v or so when the engine is running.
If the voltage continues to fall while the engine is running with the headlights on etc, then there is nothing getting to it. I would even say it is more likely your stator.

Google how to test your rectifier by Electrix there is a good guide. I would link it but i am using my phone, and don't know how.
The Electrix website even has a step by step guide diagram on fault finding and how to do this with a multimeter.

Yup that was my suspicions, especially like you say when running you expect to see something coming back, to be honest, I've just been burying my head in the sand and hoping it goes away with an easy fix.
I'll check that guide you mentioned and test it tomorrow, think if it is the stator I'll put it into the garage and get them to give the bike a good once over when it's in as I'm planning on going down to Spain in the summer, can't be having that in another country.
Thanks for the info Red Thunder, I'll keep yous all posted how I get on.

If you are handy with your tools you could replace the stator yourself. I have done it by following YouTube guides, you just need the gasket and confidence.

I'll maybe give it a go then.
Think I'll still throw it into a garage for a once over aswell before I go a grand tour tho, it's a long push home from Spain :p
