Looking online for grease, for regreasing headstock bearings, car wheel bearings etc Bit confused as which one to get, was going to just get multi purpose grease. What would you recommend out of. LM2 Lithium Grease Lithium EP2 Grease Moly grease
Ordinary Lithium 2 is the standard grease for bearings. The EP stuff is ‘extreme pressure’ and more usually needed on plant or agricultural machinery (like an EP gear oil where there are massive shear loads) Moly is the blackish stuff containing molybdenum disulphide more usually found in exposed/damp slower running applications where some water resistance is needed.
This is the grease I’ve being using for the last 15 years to grease many wheel bearings on my bikes from Brit,Jap,modern and classics and not had any problems. It’s a multi purpose high melting point lithium grease. I have and still use molybdenum disulphide to lub the drive in the rear hub on my bike and previous bikes with shaft drive. Beware if using moly disulphide grease as it will stain your hands so wear the the appropriate gloves when using moly disulphide. If fact always wear the appropriate gloves when using grease to lub up
Cheers guy, been using Bel-Ray grease, but it's over twice the price of LM grease. That said when a pot lasts 15 years, a few quid shouldn't be a problem lol
