Thruxton Thruxton R rear shocks

Went to the Bobber launch last night and ended up pawing over a newly delivered Thruxton R and noticed that the rear shocks are slightly different. I know there was a previous thread saying a couple of forumites had put in warranty claims for there shocks as they were scuffing so wondered if anyone had new shocks yet?

 

Someone was getting a new set this week, but I cant find where I read it on this forum, can anyone help, I was going to start a new thread but hopefully this one will do the trick. Dickydido was it you?

 

Ive done 1800 miles now just about all in the dry and I can drag my nail accross the grooves, god knows what they would be like if they were wet grimy miles.

Ok thanks Bonzo, just been up dealership and got picture of new set up, what an improvement, there is clear daylight between spring and shock and they have used clear plastic, so even if it does rub it won,t show so much.

How do we get Tricolore to see this so he can update on his progress, not tecky.????????

.....sorry, not me.......anyway, I got the proper Thruxton, the 12, .............shocks go boing like they should, nuffin' rubbing that shouldn't........

.......just the exhaust header pipes not colouring up the same........they are chrome on the 12 and brushed stainless on the R. Every 12 I've seen has the same issue, left side colouring up nicely, right side hardly colouring at all......while the brushed stainless ones are colouring up evenly........weird!.....

Had a phone call today, mine have finally arrived and are exactly the same as the ones Pottsy has posted a picture of.

I'm having the springs replaced with black Ohlins ones, I was advised that the standard springs are for a 12 stone rider, I'm over 14 stone so gone for a stronger spring plus I like the look of black, just to be different

I'm going back to have the shocks fitted 6/3 when they're also replacing the clocks under warranty for condensation, apparently this is now a recognised issue and Triumph have agreed to replace.

I'll let you know once fitted but will need to complete a few miles before I can comment on the shocks.

If you don't mind me asking who said that? I am nearly 17 stone (more with all my gear on) and never had an issue with standard shocks. ... New warranty units are being fitted next week along with the fuel mod recall.

Thats interesting, I can,t say I have noticed any spring problems, iam 13 stone, but most of my riding is done with Mrs Pottsy on the back, her weight is classified but iam sure our combined weight is more than 17 stone!
Thanks Tricolore, As I said I could not remember where I saw your post. What they have done with the shocks looks so much better.

 

What does this scuffing look like? I found some on my very low mileage 66-plate R on the black plastic sleeve which sits inside the spring (which appears to be different from Pottsy's pic above). It's on one side only.

 

That's exactly the same as mine ffg. There was no issues with the dealer changing, they took one look and sent a photo off to Triumph and they approved. The delay has been getting the replacement shocks.

I have the exact same rub marks.

Doesn't really bother me tbh.

 

I think mine as been approved, yes FFG I think your scuffs are in the early stages. The new set up just gives for a cleaner finish and when you come to sell if the new shocks look better than can only help with your sale price.

 

Where did the replacement springs come from? Direct from Ohlins? Triumph tell me they don't do different springs for the bike

 

I believe direct from ohlins.

 

You can go to any Ohlins distributor and they'll order them direct from Ohlins, just give them the serial number on your current springs/shock.
