Obviously having a metal tank(speed 3r 2017) I'm in Spain soon and have got a Oxford 2L mini tankbag for essential bits, phone, wallet etc, won't be using headstock strap as don't trust them so was wondering if anyone puts anything under the bag I.e clear film wrap/matting to avoid it moving n scratching tank?,or have they just been put straight onto tank with no issues, thought about having some alcohol wipes or similar handy to just wipe off tank after/before removal n fitting? Thanks all:cool:

You'd be surprised at the amount of small metal particles flying around on motorways etc that will get between the magnets and tank, I used a thin cloth but didn't use it for a great distance, some film would be better as it would stop stuff getting in contact with the tank

Have used vinyl wrap, from a mate who wrapped trucks/ vans. Found this the best stuff, take it off when you get back from the trip.
Also you get rubber weave matting stuff, used for lining drawers, from one of those bargain shops, that works good.

I've always used black rubber matting stuff and it works well enough for me.
We're off to Spain on Friday and will have an old Heine Gericke magnetic tank bag on board, totally reliant on the magnets, no supplementary straps at all don't anticipate any problems, we won't be riding at excessive speeds on our Bonne though!

Another vote for the rubbe matting stuff. Used a small Oxford tank bag last year on the Tiger. No straps and it stayed on at autobahn speeds.

I use a Givi tank lock system. You have a ring bolted to the allen bolts on the fuel filler. It easy to remove and does not touch the tank at all.

    Tony,

To clarify are you saying none of the tank bag contacts the fuel tank even when loaded?? Thanks.

    Yes I am.
These are a very nice quality bag. I've been using for around 3 years now & it still looks almost new. I'm so pleased with it, purchased one for my wife's Street 3
I'm using the XS307, 15l bag. Big enough to be useful but not get in the way
