Wasted some time today. I took the rear wheel out to get a BT45 put on that I have. Took it to the tyre place who normally do tyre changes for me, but they wouldn't do it without a new tube? Ho hum. So back home i went to put the back wheel in and i'll order a tube up and take it back next weekend. That's when the fun started. What a nightmare trying to refit the rear wheel. First bike I've ever had that I haven't been able to do it on. I had to get the wife out to wiggle the spindle in whilst lifted it and held it in place. Even then the rear hub kept catching on the right hand chain adjuster, and i had to get a screwdriver in there to move things about. In case I'm missing something obvious, anyone found an easy way to do this?
Yup, I get the shop to do it, that way my delicate, soft as veal hands, don't get dirty or damaged. Man cream anyone ?.
It is a bit tricky. The first two or three times I did it took me ages and much swearing. Then it just seemed to get easier! I use an ABBA stand to raise the Thruxton, and I have a couple of blocks of wood to help raise the wheel to axle height. I find I can hook the chain over the back end of the swing arm to keep it out of the way.
I did manage it the 2nd time,but deffo takes a 5th of the time if someone else is there to wiggle the spindle in for you.
had both tires replaced at 4k by dealer. i asked if they recommended new tubes at the same time. They said with so little miles that it wasn’t necessary. next time new tubes. honest guys!
