Hi all, Am hoping to change fork springs on my 2014 Bonneville , can this be done without removing the stanchions ? Looks like I can remove springs if I remove handlebars? Thanks in advance for any help , and the grammar and spelling corrections. ENOUGH
Yep, just take off the handle bars and unscrew the fork caps, trickiest part is putting the caps back on being careful not to cross thread them!
Take a look at Delboy changing the springs on YouTube. Some good tips. I am planning on changing mine to Hagon progressive springs in a week or two, already done the rear shocks
Dont know about a Bonnie but on my Sprint I found it easier to get the springs back in with the bike on the mainstand so the forks extended a bit. You need muscles like Arnie otherwise.
Oh dear, I have to bite ..... Dear Phantom, you say you are hoping to change the springs on your Bonneville and can it be done without removing them? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! If you don't remove them how can you change them?? That is all. (Look, if I hadn't said summat some other silly bugger most surely would have.)
I service/change the oils in my forks without removing them. The fork stanchions stay in triple tree's. Pull front axle and wheel out, gives access to drain holes ! Drain refit plugging bolts, wheel and axle back in, remove handle bars and top caps, refill ,caps and bars back on ! Job done ! Takes about an hour or so,you need bike on a stable stand of some sort, mine has centre stand so I just block the front frame rails to prevent it toppling forward. I only remove everything if the oils coming out shows a major clean out is required!
Hey Phantom, Back to edit I'm afraid, stanchion is spelt wrong. lol Tell me to F***k off, I will understand
