Hi there, I'm a proud owner of a 2008 Tiger 1050 and I must say that over the last 17k Miles I've fallen in love with it. I consider it my buttock extension. I do a lot of tours round the Alps and Italy and it is so agile round the hairpin bends it is frightening. That combined with the fantastic three cylinder engine which makes you sometimes forget that you have to change gear AT ALL has sealed my fate as a Triumph fanatic. Apart from that I use it a lot for day to day stuff as well. Only negs are the soft suspension - having bought mine second hand in Italy perhaps some sea salt got in the way of the adjusting screw -, the dim candle they purport to be the main light and the electrics. Anyway, still a happy Triumph rider and can't wait until they build a new Tiger to my liking...
Hi Toad and welcome in. Either your English is extraordinarily good for a German, or you're English ??? Have you had a chance to try the Tiger 800 range? Not quite as powerful as the 1050, but lighter, lower centre of gravity and very agile - really nice bike. In your pic is a KTM 1050 I think - I had the 1190 version for a while but couldn't really get on with it. Toooooooo tall, too aggressive - so now I've got a Tiger 955 and I love it. I must say that riding around your way is very nice indeed. Did a tour a few years back, starting out from Darmstadt down to the Black Forest and into the Italian Swiss Alps - very nice. PS Re lighting - have you done the mod which makes both headlights come on simultaneously on dip and main beam? Also have you thought of installing Osram Nightbreaker bulbs? Both mods add up to a big help when riding at night.
Welcome in toad, as above, your English is 'very english'. Some of us like playing in the alps by the way.

Cheers mate Tried the 800 and liked it but hasn't got the humph, if you know what I mean. And well spotted, yep, an Austrian Kati 1050 it is. Tried that as well, got a hot bum and didn't like the engine - constant gear shifting to get the thing moving. Crap bike afaic (not wanting to tread on anybody's toes though). And yeah, riding round this part of the world is indeed a treat. I tend to avoid Switzerland with its restrictive policing and disproportionate fines. Italy is more my cup of tea and even Austria and France are not too bad in way of turning a blind eye when it comes to speed restrictions, etc. Having said that, I'm thinking of the Cévennes next year, just a week or so, which is more your neck of the woods by the looks of it.
Oops, more posts! You are a welcoming lot Glad to hear that the Alps count among the hunting grounds round here. Must say I haven't met a lot of British bikers on my travels. Which made me think - but that is another story and perhaps another thread. As for my nationality. Yep, I'm a Germ but moved to the UK shortly after my 17th birthday and stayed there with interruptions abroad until I was in my thirties. Now pushing the fifties I've had the pleasure of aforementioned mountain range for a number of years. Only thing missing is a nice pint of real ale but hey, you can't win 'e all Should anybody want some tips re the Alps feel free to ask!

Hi Toad and welcome in to the forum. Visited Bavaria last year (not on two wheels sadly) but had the Tiger over in the Mosel Valley earlier this year.
Welcome buddy. I did a lot of touring around the German Austrian n Romanian mountains on my Gixxer 1000 K6 with my brother in law on his KTM 990. I had a lot of problems keeping up with the KTM around the mountains (could be down to my lack of riding skill :-( ). Next year we are planning a trip around Serbia n Croatia on my Speed triple . I think it will be good fun on the S3
Hi Toad, i know this isn't in the Alps but i'm hoping you might know. If i was travelling from the black forest to Speilberg in Austria what route would you recomend? doesn't have to be the the quickest route but the best biking route,.cheers
hey dougie. just by coincidence on myrouteapp if you go into activities and select germany the 2nd one "2016-10-31 Schwarzwaldrundfart" is a route around the black forest with photos. worth looking at
Cheers Crispey,i would be spending a few days in the black forest, so it's good to see a route someone has done,it's just a pity you can't use the google man..it's the same in Austria they don't let the google man in either!
Strange why there isn't any way points or even a start or finish, but at least i can see the route and i can edit myself..Edit when i clicked use route the route came up with all 90 way points! That's great when i find out where I'm going to stay i can edit the route to suit
No way points because it's a track I suppose, just about to say about copying it to tracks then I saw your edit
Damn, don't think I've got the notifications sorted yet. Didn't realise there were more posts... @ Dougie - depends really what you want and how much time you've got. There is literally everything from bombing through to not being able to make more than let's say 200 miles per day. And then there is Beervaria in the way But as crispey said, the black forest is a must! Anyway, once you've got the above parameters sorted I'd gladly give you some pointers.
Cheers once i've got dates sorted i'll give you a shout,the plan is to have 3/4 days in the black forest and 2/3 days to get to Speiberg i'm not bothered about going via the Stelvio pass as I've heard its over rated..a bit like Applecross on steriods! busy narrow road with loads of hairpins 48 i've heard , i much prefer quieter roads with fast sweepers
