Feckin Useless Doctors

@dilligaf here in NZ it takes 8 to 10 days to get MRI results and the radiologists comprehensive report to your specialist.

I just had one for my shoulder (about a month back now), was really lucky that I managed to get my MRI scan the very next day after my specialist referred me for one - he had the results by my next appt, which was 10 days later.

Mine just confirmed the awful truth that was already basically suspected, just with a lot more detail. Rotator cuff - out of four muscles, I've torn two completely off the bone, the tendons retracted too far to be reattached, one of the other two is ruptured in two. Also lots of joint damage (which will be from my years playing rugby). All in all it is a write off, only one solution viable for me and that is a total reverse shoulder replacement.

Here we have ACC - Accident Compensation Corporation, which is footing the costs for my specialist, ulttrasound, MRI scans etc as my ruptured tendons are the result of falling over on a steep slippery slope and stabbing my arm out to break the fall. Here's hoping they will fund the surgery too (there is a chance they will attempt to back out as the joint damage predates the accident).

Anyway, I hope you get your results soon and that they can get cracking on whatever is wrong and fix you fast

I really hope you get the treatment you need mate
I still haven’t heard anything about mine yet but I know that the results are in and have been sent to the consultant that examined me
Once again it’s the waiting game

 

Hang in there Dilly, so close to finding the issue, then you can expect some resolution mate

 

I went for physio yesterday and got the results of the MRI scan
It shows that I have a bulge in one of the discs in my neck
Unfortunately it’s bulging inwards and affecting the nerves both left and right
With this news the physio that I’ve been doing is stopped
And I have to start again with a different set of physio exercises
Have also got some new drug to take called Gabapentin
Apparently this stuff takes about 3 weeks to kick in and dumbs down the nerve signals hopefully reducing the pain and giving me greater movement back to my shoulders and arms
I will be reassessed by the consultant in about a month and see how I’m getting on

 

At least you now know what you are dealing with Dilli and can maybe see a road to improvement? Gabapentin sounds like a drug that should be given to somebody who talks too much.

 

Hopefully this is a step in the right direction for you, and a route back to recovery.

Is the bulging disk fixable with physio, or will it require other treatment?

 

Gotta start with the physio
Surgery will be the last option
I’m not bothered about surgery and would have it today if it would sort me out
But I’m not in control

 

Good luck mate, I really hope you get some improvement in both mobility and pain relief PDQ.

Well, that's progress, anyway. Here's hoping the meds will kick in a bit more quickly that that...

 

Well at least they have the info to start treatment, scary to think they started one lot of physio & then stopped immediately the scan result came out , makes me wonder whether you should do anything before a scan in case more harm than good is caused?

Can only imagine what it is like having to put up with that pain for so long, I only had a back problem for a few weeks now & already I have had enough , never had pain transfer from back to leg or groin before, it ain't much fun, especially when I was trying to race like it last weekend .

I really hope the combination of the physio & drugs gets you pain free as surgery is never without risk mate, keep your chin up.

 

I had a similar issue to thee Dilly, only in mi lower back. I was havin physio for a whole year, afore they decided to scan mi. They found a cyst growing inside mi spine, and trappin t'nerves. I had surgery, and it's bin great since. I was on Gabapentin. It was great, once tha gets levels reyt. I was told to start on 300mgs a day, but soon realised it weren't enough. Ended up on 1200mgs a day, and it was ok then. Takes a lot ot pain away.

 

It's great that you know what it is, dilli. Just remember not to do anything that aggravates it once it starts feeling better -I think we all have a tendency to do that.

 

Good news dilli, at least the NHS beancounter didn't determine that amputation was the most economical treatment. In the meantime sip JD through a straw.

 

I’m not a fan of physio
This is the 4th time in my life that I’ve been put on it and so far it’s never worked as far as I’m concerned
On one occasion it made things worse and I ended up having surgery
After the surgery I was put on physio again and I collapsed in a heap and was took back to Feckin hospital
Yeah I think it’s safe to say I’m not a believer in physio

 

I’ve been put on 300mgs a day for the first week
600mgs for the second week
900mgs for the third week
I think it’s something that you have to be eased into rather than taking loads from the off
Hopefully this’ll do the trick

 

My little dog Pippin is on Gabapentin - it seems to work for him!

Seriously though, I hope it does do the trick. We all take health for granted.
