Each to their own I suppose. I'm a cheapskate but ride all year( last year I clocked up an astonishing 30k miles.....no I couldn't believe it at first either. 10 k on my Thunderbird 1600 and the rest on my Tiger 955i) I use a Weise Columbus jacket in winter....larger than needed as I can put my leather jacket on underneath If it's really crap and cold. Only downside is no storm flap on the collar. Trousers are cheap Dimex off eBay for £30. Again big enough for a pair of leather jeans underneath if needed. Boots? Every 3 years I spend £50 on a pair of Tuzo leather boots with waterproof lining. For total sh**e weather a pair of Derriboots....cost me £19 10 years back. I can't remember when I last got soaked....but as I'm off camping in S Wales and N Devon next week that might all change then.
Agree with all of the above, PVC is king.....cheap,totally waterproof. Only problem is it doesn't breathe. I think screwfix sells a nice line.......in dayglow yellow!
Whilst I have a lot of sympathy for these sentiments my own experience of surplus and council waterproofs is that they rarely deal well enough around wrists ankles and neck. What's good enough at walking pace isn't that effectively at high speed in the rain.
They do look good quality...though again no Storm flap for winter deluges. Maybe such things are just out of fashion?
