Since the weather has sucked for the past few months, I have not been able to take out my 2021 Tiger 850 Sport. I went to start today and the battery is dead. Hasn't happened before. I have heard of "tenders" but when I try to search the official Triumph Motorcycle website, I am unable to find any official parts. Does anyone have an official part number? Once I have one, how hard is it to use? Do I need to remove the battery, etc.? Thanks!
In the UK we call them Battery Optomizers. Quite inexpensive and you don’t need to disconnect or remove the battery. You simply fit a cable with a connector to your battery and then plug it in whilst in your garage. I used to plug mine in every time it was in the garage and it kept my battery in top condition.
Something like this would do the job. https://www.amazon.co.uk/OptiMate-L...=1738244637&sprefix=Battery+opt,aps,89&sr=8-5
The 850 Sport has a security system on board that is a constant drain on the battery. I have a quick connector on my battery and ALWAYS park it on the charger.
Yes I have the Triumph battery optimiser (I think its made by Optimate) and keep it plugged in all the time its in the garage, because you only need a small drop in voltage to prevent engine start. You get a quick connect cable with it so just fit it to the battery terminal then tuck the connector away under the seat for example and then just plug it straight in, no disconnection required.
I've used Optimate 3, 4 and now a 7 for years. My bikes have trackers which drain the battery so one has a Optimate 3 the other a 4. I've just bought the Optimate 7 for my car. I don't use it much and I've noticed it's getting sluggish to start on cold mornings. So get one for your bike and use it all the time; you won't regret it, and it'll help reduce the need for a new battery every few years.
Th reason i bought th Optimate 2 duo was it did my car as well, as th car as a stop start EFB battery. (It also does AGM STD GEL LFP LIFEPO4) ,... My car is laid up for months on end so i give it a charge up periodically. . Th duo 2 which cost a little more money than th 1, but delivers a steady 2 amps max so safe on bike batteries. OptiMate 2 Duo 12v Car Battery Charger - 2A Lithium and Lead Acid Automatic Battery Charger Maintainer for car, van, boat, camper: Amazon.co.uk: Automotive If you like to have Triumph written on it here it is. But it dosn't mention EFB batteries. A9930596 TRIUMPH OPTIMATE DUO 2A BATTERY CHARGER UK MODEL LEAD ACID / LITHIUM | eBay. Good luck.
Whatever you decide to buy, just be mindful of where you buy it from Last week I bought an Optimate duo 2 to compliment my duo 1 as I'd given my other one to my son. I bought it off ebay for £63 delivered. On arrival I noted immediately that it had a euro x2 pin plug, so double checked the advert in case I'd missed it. Nope, nothing on the ad declaring or showing the mains plug detail.
I’ve used Optimates for the last 24 years, my original one appeared to give up the ghost after 20 years so I bought a new Optimate 4 only to find out that the problem with the original one was a failed LED in it so that now continues to service my sons bikes. Triumph sell badged Optimates but just to have the Triumph badge on it is not worth the extra crinkle. On my Striple I have the Optimate SAE connector that has LEDs advising battery charge status at a glance.
Good point about where you buy. I initially looked on Amazon for my Optimate 7 (just last week); the price from on Optimate store on Amazon was £134.90. However, from the Optimate website (optimate.co.uk) the same item was £125.90. Guess where I bought it; arrived the next day by Royal Mail 24, free delivery.
Mine after 20 odd years is still working, but i up graded so itll do th car EFB battery too. £20 PP&P if anyone wants it.
Same as my first one. One of my lads has a CTEK MXS 5.0 which he swears by. It will do the lot, AGM, Lithium and it will push out enough juice to do a car battery. But not cheap.
Bought a Triumph branded Optimax Duo 2AD for my 2023 Bonne T120 on first winter from a Triumph dealer - a bit pricey - $85. It says on front - Optimax Automatic Battery Charger For 12v Lead Acid and 12.8v LIFEPO4/LFP BATTERIES. Had to look up the latter meaning of LIFEPO4 on the internet: Lithium Iron Phosphate primarily made in China. So far, I put the charger on the battery via an included connector and 2 lights on the charger go green immediately - guess the battery is up to snuff. Don't know what type battery is in the Bonne - lead acid or LFP???
Thanks guys!! Regarding the battery on my T120, will have to give it a look; seems there is a bit of electronics sitting on top of the battery including the ports for an OBD and USB or thereabouts.
