Hi biglad, I only carry tools when touring, as you can expect things to wear out over a thousand miles ! But like you I do preventative maintenance, put new tyre's or chain on before the long ride if they are within possible failure/wearing out soon range. Not much breaks on modern bikes not like of old ...!
kriega us10 on a kriega tank harness holds small socket set, ties, tape, fuses, pliers, etc. in a pencil case plus waterproof jacket and trousers plus edz inner windshell plus flo bib for nightime breakdowns and torch etc. zip pocket on top holds disc lock and visor cleaner. acts as a pillow when lying prone on longer dual carriageways into wind!
Still experimenting with what and where to carry a few tools for any in-flight minor repair and/or adjustments. Latest effort involves one of those micro saddle bags for racing bikes that attaches to the underside of the saddle. I had one lying around in the garage and thought I'd give it a whirl.....it's tucked up tight to the outside of the headlamp bracket, does not stick out more than a couple of inches and weighs about about 0.5 kgs or about 1lbs in old money... ....maybe it'll help keep the front end down under hard acceleration when the TCC's switched off!..... Under the seat on my Tex lives a Motion Pro trail tool and a Gerber. If there's room on the Thrux R, I'll be getting the same for that too.
Hi DonVulpes, .....have a peak under a Thruxton 12 or R's seat and you'll see you'd struggle to get a packet of fag papers under there......there is clearly an opportunity for someone to design and knock out some nice tool bags for these two bikes...... ......something that was waterproof and could fit in that nice triangular frame space where the silencers bolt onto would be smart...... Maybe a slim tool tube variant to attach to the frame ? It begs the question though, if there's no space, what's the point of an underseat USB port ?
RAC card in my wallet and on a long run a small toolkit with a puncture repair tool.... and when I say long I mean 1000 miles +. Modern Trumpets really don't need much love and spanner work. A tin of chain lube is handy if it gets wet... Fireproof jacket going on..
Hi andyc1, ........I knew there was a small storage compartment in the seat hump but, for some reason or other I thought it was for document storage or owner handbook storage......and unbelievably had not even bothered to look at it!!!........as my hero Homer Simpson says........DOH!!!!..... Having now checked it out.....I've just got back from Screwfix where I bought a set of the very short combination spanners and a small pair of pliers, I already had a small combination screwdriver, a small roll of insulating tape, half a dozen cable ties, 3 Allen keys, small adjustable and a small bit of rag all stuffed into a small cloth bag Mrs dickydido 'donated'.....(I hope she don't go looking for that!..)..... I had to 'massage' the bundle into a small sausage roll sort of shape, then wrapped it in one of the dogs poo bags to keep the moisture out..........yes, it was an unused one!.....then, with a bit of squeezing and persuading it bloody well fitted......and I just got the cover to shut with a good push...........result!...... So, andyc1........I owe you a pint or three when we bump into each other.....mega thanks for the encouragement to go check it out.....assumptions and complacency?.................Oh!, I just can't be bothered to think it through!!!........ Hi Vansflyer, .....get that jackets zip done right up to the neck!........'modern Triumphs really don't need much love'....... .....blimey, you only gotta look at the latest edition Triumph's with a tear in yer eye and there is enough moisture to get that corrosion spreading across any exposed alloy!!!....... ....indeed, they don't seem to need much spannering but boy, they need plenty of wiping down with an oily rag!!!.... .....in the old days I reckon Edward Turner actually designed in the oil leaks so everything, inside and out, stayed well lubed....it was not leaks at all but an anti-corrosion device that doubled as an engine!!!......
