I was thinking of this idea as a way to store a u-lock when going on holiday. I'm sure it's been done before but does it/would it work? Get 2 plastic tubes about 20cm long from the plumber & zip-tie them to the underside of the rack. Slide in the lock & lock it on. I've found white ones that fit perfectly but I want black. Before I go to this great expense can anyone see any problems?

If you use stainless steel cable ties you wont have a problem. Go to an electrical wholesalers and buy a length of either 20mm or 25mm PVC conduit :)

I remember, years ago, you used to be able to get a U lock bracket that went behind the number plate.
Don't know if they're still available, also not sure if modern 'mudguards' would be strong enough anyway.....

Yeah I remember them. So if mudguards not strong enough what about making a u-lock out of plastic piping so the guard could take it. Then when fitted, from a distance, the thieves wouldn't know the difference, then they'd have wasted their time lugging their HD cutting gear!
