    Didn't see the full episode, nice clean goodies and baddies stuff though.
    Just as a last point, are you using new clean petrol ? If not clean out the entire fuel system and get some.

    Fuel is fresh but no harm in putting a few guineas of extra fresh in........new plugs....etc..etc........as you've all said and rightly.......start from the beginning and work from there..............cheers again fellas.....you're a thesaurus of knowledge ........and I'm grateful......

    Afternoon all
    time to throw myself onto your pire of flaming knowledge. What follows are two pictures of the carbs....... Removed but the throttle cable still attached........One is at rest and fully closed...One fully open. Does anyone notice anything wrong with either picture as I really have no idea if they are supposed to look as they do...............As always any help will be greatfully received and used accordingly

    Hi Jennoe, I'm not by any means claiming knowledge here, but the throttle bodies don't look exactly at the same setting.

    On the top picture the middle one is slightly open whilst the others are closed; on the bottom one the left and middle are fully open but the rh one is not.

    My thoughts too......just needed a expert view........what I need to know is how to balance them.....I've tried turning several screws but nothing seems to change......feel free to throw any ideas into the pot......I'm less than useless at this point...

    Hi Jennoe,

    By no means a expert in this field either but I was looking into the same and it seems to be a bit of a science. Also requires a few specific tools to measure gaps and pressures etc so not really an eyeball it kind of job.

    Compete professional clean and rebuild with a guarantee seemed a more sensible option than spending hours to end up with a substandard ride at the end of it.

    Just a thought :)

    Jr's.uk sounds ideal but somewhat pricy at £255.....that's probably my whole budget for the bike..:(.......having said that the rebuild kit is £60 and I have a Haynes manual so it looks as if my hand is forced........

    Yes not cheap but to do it properly you will need to factor in some vacuum gauges which will also add to the cost.

    This was a god indication of what the job entails ...

    Ultimately it was the the ultrasonic cleaning that hooked me :)

    have to agree with the others here,think you need to spend a bit or it looks like youre pissin in the wind otherwise. I believe no 2 carb is the one you set the others up to, first 1 then 3. Looks like something is twisted out of line on your set tho. plus theres no way the screws should be all the way in, think it should be about 2 turns out plus or minus a half. sorry not an expert either.

    hi 2.5 turns open on the jets.

    take all jets out clean up put back and try starting again balance carbs,s's video.

    you can change all jets and gaskets later gasket sets cheapest on eBay best place for jets is Triumph spares.would clean out get running first before spending lots

    Hi Jennie,
    The right hand carby is missing its cap off the vacuum port, where you have your finger in the second photo is the adjust point for balancing the left carb to the centre and the adjuster for the right is the same setup on the right of centre !
    The bike won't run well and possibly won't start if you are trying without that vacuum port on the right capped/covered !!!

    removal and refitting is best done from the left and much easier to remove the carbs complete with the cable and detach the cable from the grip.
    Those carbs need some serious work done by the looks. Final balance will need vacuum gauges to get to run sweet.

    As usual fellas my cup runeth over with info and advice. All of which will be followed to the letter.........I'm under no illusions that both the carbs and also the bike as a whole need a massive amount of work......my focus at the moment is to get her started and running after some fashion.......that done she'll be pulled apart to the bones and then the Phoenix will rise.........but it all starts with these carbs.

    Hi jennoe,
    Good advice from all here, get it running firstly, then you can gauge what needs replacement. Adjust centre first so throttle butterfly is opened up the recommended amount, then left then right, start if you can get it too ! Then adjust idle up or down so it's running OK then fine tune with carby balancers, test and adjust after a run on the street, if it won't run smoothly through the full rev range on the road, then jetting,ports or needles are out.

    hi Yes get the vacuum caps on take the vottoms of carbs give good clean out put back together using original gaskets o rings etc check diaphrams are not split wind jets out 21/2 turns and then put back on bike may run bit rough should start though sounds like not too far off you can then decide what needs replacing probably find needlesa

    I've just done a set of 1200 carbs. Are these ones mikuni? (terrible spelling!) sorry. The haynes manual is really good for understanding carbs. My advice would be to not remove them from the rails. Pretty much everything can be cleaned and rebuild as a bank. I would get new seals and check float heights. Check out bench syncing which should be enough to get it running (probably roughly), as said. 2.5 turns is about right for jets. If you can be bothered it might be useful is to dismantle them completey and give them a really good soak in carb cleaner. There is a youtube video on how to make a sonic cleaner by itchiban? Its basically a sander gaffer tapped to a tupaware tub! The main jets have loads of tiny holes that easily get blocked up, some soft wire wool clean them nicely. Just take it slow and take photos, lots of photos...Good luck.

    Oh, and if you have an air compressor give them a really good blow out, sometimes rubbish blocks them up.
