I can beat that - RYANAIR refunded me £15, when travel agent had booked my 15yo an adult plane seat by mistake and we had to change it !!!! WTF !!!!

Someone I worked with went to look at a VW Golf, described as "one lady owner, low mileage a nice perky car"
He turns up to be greeted by said lady who was middle aged and nice big house. She shows him the car, near immaculate condition other than some grooves in the alloys where it had been curbed. He points them out and she says okay, what would you give me for it then, he was always trying his luck so he said £500 as that is the cash he bought with him for a deposit. She said fair enough and he drove off in it that afternoon.
I don't recall what it was being advertised for but is was around a few grand, and under 5,000 miles.

Some people try their luck and get a bargain.

Okay, I realise that it pales into insignificance compared to some of the above stories of high finance, but it made me smile. And it was very shiny!

Some years ago friends of mine moved house.

Everything went well until it came to sorting out the gas and electric. They called the supplier, or who they thought was the supplier only to be told there was no record of them ever having supplied that address.

They called and wrote to every gas and electric supplier and got the same story. They wrote to the regulator and again no luck there was no record anywhere of supply to that property. Nobody wanted to know.

They have a folder that's a couple of inches thick full of correspondence showing how hard they tried to sort it.

In the end they started taking readings and paying money into a savings account against the day when someone came knocking at the door waving a bill.

They never came and you can imagine how much money they have saved up in that account over the years as well as having free gas and leccy!

 

I might know someone who found a dirty satchel stuffed full of used notes on a train. Waited till their stop, grabbed it and legged off the train. Scared as hell going home, hid bag for a month before slowly ironing bundles of notes and paying them into a savings account. If I remember correctly, over £3500!!!!

Our guess it was some junkie dealer too off their face and left it behind on the train. Bet they got hell of a kicking for losing that much money!!!! Hahahahahaha

No it wasn't me, honest. Wish it was.

 

Not in the same league as some of you guys stories but was a good result for me. I used to work as a postie a few years ago and on one of the rounds I did I saw this unloved fiat coupe lying in a driveway for months . One day I got talking to the owner who told me the car was running but he'd got fed up as there was a problem with the alarm and the 4 indicator lights would all flash and he couldn't get them to go off . I asked if he'd be interested in selling it, he was and we agreed £300 . Next day I picked it up but the guy couldn't find the log book which he needed to sort out the private plate on the car which he wanted to keep, but said he'd give me a call as his wife would be in later and she'd know where it was . This was fine as I wasn't going to be using it anyway just working on it on my drive. So I spent some time over the next few days cleaning the moss off the car , giving it a good polishing , Googled how to find the alarm which was way under the driver side footwell ! and removed the bugger, hey presto no flashing lights ! Put my old car cover on and left it.
Couple days later the guy called and said he couldn't locate the log book and was very sorry but wondered if I would sell the car back to him as he wanted to keep the plates . I said I would but had done a bit of work to it anyways he came to see the car that day his wife brought him in their range rover, when I took the cover off his eyes lit up , couldn't believe it was his car , was chuffed with the interior too all spruced up ! So told him I'd removed alarm and the car just needed used , think he fell back it love with it gave me £600 ! and drove off with a smile and I'd doubled my dosh for a few hours cleaning up which in them days I enjoyed !
